Only just figuring that the “autistic love language” of “crush my soul back into my body” might be referring to pain hyposensitivity and it’s making an awful lot of sense to me right now… 🤔

Ah! I have a pain hyposensitivity story, but *it’s a bit ick* and I don’t know how to content-warning it. Guess I’ll keep it to myself. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sometimes, autism is realising that other people will never notice when you cherish them so much as to give them the good fork. Likewise, they’ll never appreciate how badly they’re been burned by being allocated the bad knife. Just another day of neurotypicals not picking up on social cues…

Deliberately *not explaining* something or stopping part way through is *hard*. But, if you recognise that little change in tone in the other person’s voice, you know it’s stop now or a situation will arise. Meanwhile, still feeling misunderstood. 🤦🏻‍♂️

A nice morning to be up on scaffolding at the back of my house, but it’s starting to warm up now the sun has moved around. Fixing insulation on the back of the kitchen wall before the weather gets colder and wetter.
A photo of a gentle valley in Portugal. The sky is deep blue, there are trees in the grass and on the other side of the valley. There are a couple of small stone buildings in the distance. The ancient terracotta tiles of a small building can be seen bottom right, below the level of the scaffolding I was standing on.

When Star Trek IV came out (1986), the idea that Scotty tried to talk to a computer (travelling back to 1986 because plot) was like “oh, future techno men and their fancy ways”. Watching the clip again, it looks more like “your funny grandad who doesn’t know how computers work, eh Siri?”.

When I was a kid, other kids, teachers & other kid's parents identified that I was "weird." But kids are weird & I was maybe just a bit weirder than most. As an adult, a few neurodivergent people suggested to me that I might be neurodivergent or explicitly that I might have ADHD. I laughed it off. 🧵

The joys of realising small things. I just spent an hour writing some python code to brute force the statistics for exploding dice because I thought it would be *complicated* to calculate. Looking at the results, I immediately realised it’s *ridiculously simple* and I should have known.

This blog explores the amazing work of Professor Jason Arday, who had over 80 publications. And the awful violence that he endured before he died. There is a list of resources, and other ideas for action to continue the fight against classist-racist-ableism.

Celebrating the work of Professor Jason Arday
In early 2023, Cambridge University were delighted to tell the world that Dr Jason Arday had been appointed as a Professor of Sociology of Education, with his post beginning in March that year. Cambridge University shared "Arday has faced many personal challenges – notably being diagnosed, at the age of three, with a form of Autism Spectrum Disorder which meant he was unable to speak until he was 11." This inspiration porn style article posits Jason, a Black, working class, man with 'autism spectrum disorder' as being able to overcome his disability (and presumably his race and ethnicity?) to be able to become a professor.

The drake meme, refusing a head wearing a linen white coif with its laces untied, accepting a head wearing the same coif with properly knotted laces. Somehow drake is wearing a 14th century armor.
