A nice morning to be up on scaffolding at the back of my house, but it’s starting to warm up now the sun has moved around. Fixing insulation on the back of the kitchen wall before the weather gets colder and wetter.

Just had a visit from this amazing butterfly while out in the garden - I *think* it’s a Scarce Swallowtail, but I’m no expert.

Now the Moon and Venus are smoochin’. How cool is that? I’m glad they get to check in with each other and catch up.

Also, this evidence from 2016… To be fair, I quit this job in 2018 because it was too much of a head-fuck. I opted to train to teach maths to teenagers, because it seemed easier.

We’ve had a lot of mosquitos, and ran out of citronella candles. I remembered a thing I read about Roman olive oil lamps, so I got some wire, olive oil, pliers and wire and tried it out. Some lavender oil in the olive oil and it’s working pretty well.

A small cream and brown streaked ceramic bowl with an inch of olive oil in the bottom. A red cotton wick made from a scrap of fabric is supported by a wire holder wound into a spiral. The wick is alight and a small flame provides light and also burns the lavender oil to drive away insects. I also made the bowl in my short time throwing clay. I really enjoyed pottery, and I would love to do more some day.

Saw this lovely fox while out walking the dog and it made my morning. Looked like it was enjoying being in the freshly cut grass.

It’s only taken a month and a half, but Rufus finally deigned to try his bed instead of trying to eat it. He seems to like it - I placed it so he can watch out the balcony door for cats.

I was thinking about this today as I hand washed my dog’s two favourite toys (because I wouldn’t put them in the machine, obviously 🤔) and then hung them out to dry, making sure they looked comfortable (OK, hanging by your ears probably isn’t ideal, but they’re the correct way up, which matters).

Bought dog a dog bed. Dog wants to eat and destroy bed, not touch bed. Might need a bigger bed of a different material? Dog has gone to sleep on the sofa with his little head on my arm, he can do no wrong.

Rufus (my dog) has a love-hate relationship with the hoover. He likes to follow it around but he’s also scared of it and usually watches it from behind my legs. Today he jumped on a chair as I headed towards him like there was a mouse and we were in some 1950s sitcom. 🤷🏻‍♂️
