Historically not particularly interested in the Kryptonian heroes, but Milly Alcock is good in Supergirl, and I can go for a grittier side of that planet’s citizens. Also, Jason Momoa having *kind of* a heel turn in the DC universes was not on my bingo card.

-10 is when my gear starts to show its weaknesses and I start to think a lot more about what to wear, so I’d put it there. When windchill is in excess (dearth? how does that work?) of -30 I start looking for alternative modes & generally opt for the car / transit for anything more than a km or two.

Crazy that it’s a free upgrade… I’ll have to revisit this also.

The number of drivers that repeatedly bottom out their vehicles on the speed hump in front of my place is wild to me. Damaging your own vehicle and the road over and over, because you either can't or won't pay enough attention to what you're doing is madness.

I've never read the book. The film has some pretty grim moments also, so I'm guessing the book is another level. Oh, Parasite is quite good. I should re-watch it soon.

Yeah it was a really fun watch. Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor really help anything along for me. Also, dinosaurs.

I don't think there's a world in which I complete this, and that's fine by me. These challenges may work for some folks, but it's really done little more than burn me out on the genre, which I tend to watch more at this time of year anyway. Plus, *in my best Rosa Diaz voice* who's got the time?

36) The End of Oak Street I'm gonna stand by this one. Neither IMDB nor RT classify it as horror, but it's more firmly in the genre than some others on this list. Dinosaurs. Survival. Death and dismemberment. Very modern creature feature. Good solid seven and a half.

The pale man is one of the most truly unsettling antagonists to exist on screen. Great film.

These posts really embody what we see on the roads every day. The selfishness and ignorance are pervasive and sad. @danp.net I have also adopted the head shake, with latent hope that disappointment somehow resonates more with folks than anger or frustration.

White: why do we have traffic lights that tell drivers to turn and pedestrians to walk at the same time Traffic authority: that's just the way we've always done it.

What a shocking concept... Cars are generally also anti-community. They put you in a bubble & your state of mind is one where where you compete w/ others to get where you're going as quickly as possible. This leads to poor decisions: running reds, blocking AT pathways & sidewalks, and far worse.

Both sides are a mess on that side of the bridge intersection, lots of debris, and the various construction on the harbour side has meant trucks parked *inside* the barriers and tons of people rushing in and out of side streets. Take care!

Me: I think micro mobility is the future of cities, allowing more minimal roadways to better serve transit, emergency services, and those who genuinely require single occupancy vehicles. Also me: Monster trucks? You have my attention… I genuinely think it’s the physics nerd itch being scratched 🤔

It's account-based, so when I turned it on in the iOS app, it started working on the web app also. Pretty great for keeping track of your own posts--or someone else's--in a long thread where others are also replying. #takebacktheemdash

I generally really like the way the threading feature works in BlueSky. However, there's a beta feature you can turn on that makes it even better: baked-in thread counters. I turned it on in August and it's still really great Settings → Beta Features

Fucked Up Every so often, there's an album that achieves such universal acclaim that it's hard to believe that it's actually that good. David Comes to Life is one of those albums, and it delivers. I've seen them a handful of times. This video is from an in-the-round performance. So good.

Honeycrisp were on for about half price in bulk last time I was at Superstore. No bags, but still a bargain if that’s your thing. I think the harvest is still ongoing in many places so maybe soon for bigger price drops.

The State of Alaska Sometimes bands form, write a few songs or a few albums together, play some incredible shows, and then life goes on. I had the privilege of seeing The State of Alaska a few times here in Halifax. The live shows eclipsed these recordings, which is saying something.

Japandroids Decidedly lo-fi garage punk. Guitar. Drums. Vocals. Noisy. Energetic. The adage regarding an artist's ability to generate great art using simple tools really rings true here. Hard to pick a favourite song, but Celebration Rock is definitely my record of choice.

Joni Mitchell Mountain dulcimers. Interesting rhythms. Unmistakable vocals. Thoughtful lyrics. Also responsible for some of my favourite Christmasy music. She's a legend with a career spanning more years than most of us have known. I've never seen her live and likely never will, but that's ok.

The Disgengagement Had the pleasure of getting to know these guys when they were based in Antigonish. Hard to believe I found this on YouTube given the very independent nature of all of their releases. Their frontman Lanny Cox still makes music as Unwell Wisher, but this track is a fav of mine.

Propagandhi I didn't do this one already? Wow. Progressive thrash out of Manitoba. More lyrics about hockey than you'd guess. Fully expect to have Chris ask the score of the game live at one of their shows. Here's the audition of their guitarist, Sulynn Hago. Also one of my favourite tracks.

The Weakerthans If you've listened to Canadian punk rock for long enough, you know the story of John K Samson. Propagandhi alum. Prolific solo artist. Then, arguably his life's work: The Weakerthans. You can track the distance from his punk rock days as time goes on, but this one's in the middle.

Alexisonfire I don't think I can count the number of times I've seen these guys live. Post-hardcore of the finest kind. Their members are prolific in the Canadian music industry, most notably City and Colour, and Black Lungs. Here's an oldie but a goodie.

Protest The Hero Prog metal straight outta Whitby, ON. Fun videos. A band of virtuosos. Compelling lyrics. It's very difficult for me to pick just one song of theirs, but this was probably their biggest single and is a decent entry point to the band.

Yeah, mine either. My onramp to Buck was stuff like The Centaur and his feature on Making Love To Your Disk Drive, heh. My fav is probably Beauty Is A Skill, it was one of the first whispers I heard of the modern version of his voice in the days of the more nasal sounds.

Sarah Harmer Really great live performances, incredible songwriting, and just sonically so nice. I finally upgraded my capo when I was learning to play her songs. Just wanted to be in that key so often. The Dobro, the vocals, and the kind of banjo tone she gets just really work here.

Buck 65 Eclectic… folk hip-hop, spoken word… rock? Once in Toronto I had the pleasure of seeing him in an empty warehouse with Emm Gryner & Holy Fuck (Loel #2). One of the most unique and intense live experiences. Hard to pick a song, but… a single because Buck’s videos are quite interesting too.

Spengler Blue Skies Turn Black was a label based in Montreal in the early 2000s. They released a handful of artists I love: Kiss Me Deadly; Rockets Red Glare; The Marato; and Spengler. Very little presence on YouTube for these artists, so I’ll keep it to this one post.
