I generally really like the way the threading feature works in BlueSky. However, there's a beta feature you can turn on that makes it even better: baked-in thread counters. I turned it on in August and it's still really great Settings → Beta Features

There are a handful of actors that show up in this genre more often than others, typically in supporting or cameo roles. My current favourite:

I doubt that most drivers--this one included--are intimately familiar with this... a fellow cyclist tipped me off to this a few years ago and it still enrages me on the regular. Source: novascotia.ca/tran/roadsaf... My real question is where is the line between parking and standing to unload?
A screenshot of a website reading: Can a car be parked in a bike lane if there is no sign prohibiting parking?

No. Under the new laws, you may not park in bike lanes. However, the law does recognize there are situations, particularly at bus stops, where it is necessary to temporarily stop or stand in a bike lane as part of operations; for example transit buses. Vehicles may temporarily stand or stop in a bike lane while actively engaged in loading or unloading of goods or people. If you must stop in a bike lane to unload/load passengers or goods, you must yield to cyclists already in the bike lane prior to pulling over and stopping.

As a cyclist watch for commercial vehicles or buses that may be stopped in a bike lane. When this occurs, remember to wait and see if it is safe to pass on the left or wait until the vehicle leaves. If it is a bus, and it has a signal on to pull away from the curb, yield to the bus. If the bus is stopped and no signal is present, pass on the left to allow passengers to leave the bus.

From ~a week ago, but it’s still like this. Came out with my groceries to find two other cyclists assessing how to lock up without trapping me. We were all thankful of the timing, but it’s next to impossible for more than one person to use this rack at once. Braemar superstore. #bikehfx

Got some new sunnies with photochromic (transitions, basically) lenses in them recently. Today partner and I took a day off work, took kiddo to daycare, then drove to Wentworth for some trail time. Fun. MTB ride, trail run, road ride… perfect light filtering everywhere. So good.

Yesterday on a bus with ~20 other riders, we waited multiple lights while drivers plowed into the intersection, turning right on red. Driver got frustrated, blocked the intersection with the bus. Is enforcement part of congestion discussion? Unless they mean HRM, transit is not shit everywhere.

1/2 Been working hard on a semi-offline UX. The iconography needs some work but the good news is the iteration process is pretty dialed in and the feedback loop is short. As someone that builds, uses, and buys software, it always feels counterintuitive to dig into processing or presenting...

After loaning it to a friend nearly two decades ago and not receiving it back, I put Douglas Coupland’s Microserfs on a wish list a while ago and received a new copy as a gift. Just last night, I started reading it and am finding myself just as engaged by the story as the first time I read it.

Strange how the mind has trouble placing what's missing when a building is demolished. Resorted to Google Maps to see the building that was recently taken down on Creighton. Fairly nondescript, except this beautiful wall. If you happen to have photos of this wall Halifax Halisky please share them.
The wall of a 2 storey office building is filled with vibrant graffiti. The art appears to span multiple styles and times, and is very well done. There are two vehicles parked near the wall.

Not sure if your app supports them, but there depending on where you are there may also be a PWSWeather station you can get data from. There's one on the peninsula and a handful in Dartmouth. Maybe closer than the Stanfield or Shearwater stations the app is likely pulling from.

Related - are there details on the (what appears to be bike) infrastructure in the upper right of this photo? There’s a caged / roofed structure that I’m sure I’ve seen holding bikes. I don’t see it mentioned in literature and I can’t find a labeled architectural diagram on my phone, apparently.

Two of my north end favourites from the recent mural festival here in Halifax. Love seeing such beautiful art in my daily life.
2 large murals on the side of a 2 storey greyish-blue building, viewed from the adjacent alley. The sky is blue. The mural on the left has a black background with multicoloured text at the top that reads "I'm so glad you're here", and flowers on the bottom in the same colours as the text. One of my favourite app discoveries in recent memory is one called Literature Clock. It's what it says on the tin: literary passages that denote the current time... or as close to current as the database allows for. Which is perfect.

This sucks. I've had my share of road rage encounters, but I've also spoken candidly with a number of drivers that just get genuinely nervous and think that a honk is a good indication that they're about to overtake. It's--shockingly--actually recommended by the RMV handbook.
