I will also be following everyone that I follow on this account over there, keep an eye out for that. (for nerds: moving from plc to a web DID. thanks @goeo.lol for the help!👍) 050

Women are disproportionately the ones responsible for getting kids ready for school, including making them lunches. By having lunch provided, it relieves them of that burden.youtube.comSchool Lunch: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)YouTube video by LastWeekTonight 916029

Dr. Todd Forged @they.forgedtheir.phd · 16/09/2024Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #129,245! honestly so real of them to do this I was kinda curious 020

Dr. Todd Forged @they.forgedtheir.phd · 15/09/2024I share a similar feeling with flatpaks, where the sandboxing ends up making the utility or app contained within lose a significant part of its functionality. The package ecosystem is one of the hardest things I think a general user has to wrap their minds around, and arch is doing it the best atm. 000
Dr. Todd Forged @they.forgedtheir.phd · 15/09/2024Anyways, while I do have a lot of respect for Ubuntu for being such a good operating system in the past, I can’t easily recommend it due to the decision to use snaps. It’s my understanding that not many apps are designed with snaps in mind, and when they get packaged into a snap they break. 100
Dr. Todd Forged @they.forgedtheir.phd · 15/09/2024If you want to try something new but still feel safe, use gnome. It’s less configurable compared to plasma but still has a lot of third party addons, potentially more than plasma. 100
Dr. Todd Forged @they.forgedtheir.phd · 15/09/2024If you’re coming from windows, and overwhelmed with the choice of DE, I personally recommend plasma. It has a familiar UI, with substantially higher configurability. It’s what the steam deck uses for desktop mode, and has a lot of third party support (widgets, etc.) 100
Dr. Todd Forged @they.forgedtheir.phd · 15/09/2024It doesn’t have to be mainline arch! You could use endeavor, the arch-install, whatever you’re comfortable with. Arch has a *huge* package ecosystem, between the mainline repos and the AUR. You’re spoiled for choice. Not just that, but the support split between the wiki and forum is beyond useful. 100
Dr. Todd Forged @they.forgedtheir.phd · 15/09/2024A lot of the people I’m seeing on social media are making the jump to Linux, good! But they’re choosing Ubuntu, not good! For a long time it was a good choice but the moment snaps happened it gimped the experience. This sounds menacing, but after a conversation with friends, I agree. Use arch. 110
