🤑 Public money should serve the public good - not Big Tech. A new briefing from @thewhynotlab.com and Hannah Johnston sets out six principles for public procurement that protects digital sovereignty, workers’ rights and democratic control. Check it out 👇 www.epsu.org/article/publ...

Public procurement must support digital sovereignty, not corporate control
Billions of euros are spent every year on digital and AI systems - yet EU procurement rules still provide too few clear principles for how these systems should be bought with public money.

most people want a quick and simple answer to why AI systems encode/exacerbate societal and historical bias/injustice and due to the reductive but common thinking of "bias in, bias out," the obvious culprit often is training data but this is not entirely true 1/

#digitaltechnologies by nature are manipulative. Inferences, profiling, and the use of said are limiting, defining, enabling, fragmenting. 📣 I call on governments to add that humans must have a right to be free from algorithmic manipulation as a condition for the realisation of #humanrights
