The trees' "Wood Wide Web" reflects something we humans have forgotten: life is sustained by connection and by the invisible systems that hold everything together.

Don’t know who wrote this — it was posted on Instagram by “Warpaint Journal” in April 2025 — but it’s making the rounds today and is pretty great. I dream of this too ❤️
Most people don't dream of being fancy-rich.
I dream of being rich enough to say, "Treat's on me," without thinking twice. Rich enough to have a home that feels like a hug, a fridge stocked like a five-year-old with adult money, and a tray of chocolates waiting for someone to grab. Rich enough to quietly help a friend before they even have to ask. To send a care package when someone's too tired to reach out. To buy all the pencils from a kid on the street so they can go home early. For me, the real money dream isn't about luxury - it's about having enough to give, enough to comfort, enough to turn ordinary moments into something extraordinary.

In the Enola Gay five minutes before impact he whistles a dry tune Later he will say that the whole blooming sky went up like an apricot ice… —Alison Fell, “August 6, 1945” published in The New British Poetry, 1968–88 (Paladin, 1988) Hiroshima was hit by an atomic bomb on this day, 6 August, 1945
August 6, 1945
Alison Fell

In the Enola Gay
five minutes before impact
he whistles a dry tune

Later he will say
that the whole blooming sky
went up like an apricot ice.
Later he will laugh and tremble
at such a surrender, for the eye
of his belly saw Marilyn’s skirts
fly over her head for ever

On the river bank,
bees drizzle over
hot white rhododendrons

Later she will walk
the dust, a scarlet girl
with her whole stripped skin
at her heel, stuck like an old
shoe sole or mermaid’s tail

Later she will lie down
in the flecked black ash
where the people are become
as lizards or salamanders
and, blinded, she will complain
Mother you are late. So late

Later in dreams he will look
down shrieking and see

ladybirds
ladybirds

Invisible threads connect souls, woven from time, memory, and starlight. Even in solitude, we are many—reflections of one another, fragments of a single, luminous whole. To reach for the stars is to reach for each other—a longing not for distance, but for reunion.

I’m still thinking about that 9th century Irish monk who loved his cat Pangur Bán so much he wrote a poem about him
Gaelic
Messe agus Pangur Bán, cechtar nathar fria shaindán: bíth a menmasam fri seilgg.
mu menma céin im shaincheirdd.
Caraimse fos, ferr cach clú oc mu lebrán, léir ingnu;
ní foirmtech frimm Pangur bán
caraid cesin a maccdán
Ó ru biam, scél gan scís innar tegdais, ar n-endís,
táithiunn, díchríchide clius
ni fris tarddam ar n-áthius
Gnáth, húaraib, ar gressaib gal
glenaid luch inna línsam; os mé, du-fuit im lín chéin
dliged ndoraid cu ndronchéill
Fúachaidsem fri frega fál
a rosc, a nglése comlán; fúachimm chéin fri fégi fis
mu rosc réil, cesu imdis.
Fáclidsem cu ndéne dul
hi nglen luch inna gérchrub; hi tucu cheist ndoraid ndil os mé chene am fáelid.
Cia beimmi a-min nach ré ni derban cách a chéile maith la cechtar nár a dán; subaigthius a oenurán
Hé fesin as choimsid dáu;
in muid du-ngní cach enláu;
du thabairt doraid du glé for mu muid céin am messe.
Aistrithe ag Robin Flower

English
I and Pangur Bán, my cat
"Tis a like task we are at;
Hunting mice is his delight
Hunting words I sit all night.
Better far than praise of men
"Tis to sit with book and pen;
Pangur bears me no ill will, He too plies his simple skill.
"Tis a merry thing to see
At our tasks how glad are we, When at home we sit and find Entertainment to our mind.
Oftentimes a mouse will stray
In the hero Pangur's way:
Oftentimes my keen thought set
Takes a meaning in its net.
'Gainst the wall he sets his eye Full and fierce and sharp and sly;
Gainst the wall of knowledge I All my little wisdom try.
When a mouse darts from its den, O how glad is Pangur then!
O what gladness do I prove
When I solve the doubts I love!
So in peace our tasks we ply, Pangur Bán, my cat, and I;
In our arts we find our bliss, I have mine and he has his.
Practice every day has made Pangur perfect in his trade;
I get wisdom day and night Turning darkness into light.

Because we have survived without AI. We have survived without smartphones. We have survived without data centers. We have never survived without clean water. We have never survived without healthy soil. We have never survived without forests, pollinators, and a stable climate.

The more we destroy, pollute, and cut down the more we cripple the Earth's ability to heal and regenerate. Every forest cleared, every river polluted, every soil depleted means a little less resilience for the planet and a little less margin for us.

The saddest truth? The Earth does not need humans—we are the ones who rely entirely on the Earth. If we continue to destroy our only home, there will be no other world to nourish and protect us; yet, knowing this, we continue to drain Mother Earth dry like parasites.

Beneath the starry sky—where time seems to stand still and the heavens unfold in a radiance of starlight—we are reminded of the fragile miracle of existence. Each star, a distant fire, whispers the ancient truth that we are part of something vast, mysterious, and eternal.

Every Forest Tells Life's Story. A forest is more than trees. It is the quiet heartbeat of our planet, sheltering wildlife, protecting rivers, storing carbon, and giving us every breath we take. When forests disappear, so does part of our future. Protecting forests means protecting life itself.

As I get older the thing I think is most important to humans as a species is our relationship to one another and to nature. Everything else is secondary. This is fundamental to our survival as individuals and as a species. Call me an old hippy if you like.
