I think part of the problem is that choice is a capacity, not a constant. When the nervous system is taxed too heavily, our field narrows until reaction begins replacing deliberation. We can insist people should choose differently, but many are on autopilot long before they realize it.

(I meant that as 1/2) The "how do I heal?" as "how do I move on from who I used to be?" You don't. You carry all versions of yourself with you. You love them, flaws and all. You forgive them. You learn. That is how you heal. Not through erasing them. By walking with them and holding their hand. 2/2

You can’t stop other people from being abusive. You can’t love, shame, or discipline them enough to make them change. The individual must decide to behave differently. The only abuse you can directly interrupt is self-abuse, and that changes what you recognize, tolerate, and repeat.
