It’s important to remember, when you hear about Chicago being “dangerous”, that when people say things are dangerous, most of the time they just mean Black. Being on public transit at night in downtown Chicago is safer than driving. But you are at risk of seeing a black person, so it’s “dangerous”

I don't know if I would go as far as good, but I do think the hate is overblown overall. However, they still present issues: bus/streetcar lines (and usually bike lanes as well) have to split streets, making car-free mobility more confusing to many, and many poorly-built one-ways encourage speeding

Not definitive at all, but I have to recommend “The Lines that Make Us” by Nathan Vass for Seattle. It captures the energy of the city so well through the lens of transit riders, and I haven’t read anything that does as good of a job of showing what Seattle is truly like.

The idea that cyclists are less law-abiding than drivers has been discredited everywhere it's ever been studied but also it's a deeply weird argument: if it were true, it'd still mean legal driving is statistically far more dangerous than illegal cycling? This isn't a good argument for cars?

I feel like "single most important" tends to lack nuance. Yes, frequency is great, but it means nothing if service doesn't run daily from early in the morning to late in the evening, and service doesn't also cover enough areas that you can access what you need to access on a regular basis.

$50,000 is a drop in the bucket. I'd be celebrating if it was a couple million, but this is so little they might as well not pay it. I also saw that the fine is supposed fund affordable housing, but it's so little that you wouldn't actually be able to build or do anything meaningful with it.

My assumption is that it's hardcoded to the vehicle number! That's usually how special livery vehicles are tracked on most tracking software

I also feel a little bad because making the bus take the DART deviation means the driver doesn’t really get a break. I don’t think I’ll use it again but I’m glad I finally tried!

I used King County Metro’s DART service on Mercer Island for the first time today! It’s really not the best replacement for the old fixed-route buses that served more parts of the island but it is nice to have the option at least, and it’s fun to ride along the waterfront!

No one wants urination on pubic transit, this is a ridiculous straw man that lets you very pointedly avoid mentioning a solution, which is because 1) your solution is to spend more transit resources on cops to cycle more people through jail, and 2) you know it will only make things worse.

Route 910 is funded by allocations from SB125. It's a tax-funded service partially subsidized by user fees. No one "mismanaged" it, it isn't "losing money". This is like saying governments lose $1 billion by widening a freeway and not recovering 100% of the costs with tolls.
Screenshot of headline that says "Transit route that loses $590,000 a year is a success story?" followed by "No wonder local governments always have budget problems."
