But yeah if shops are gonna use an AI slop sign they should at least check what it says they're offering

Surely that's AI slop? The word below "Alternative" is messed up

Yeah I've seen a small number of motorbikes, but at least some (maybe most) of them were petrol.

FWIW loads of acoustic bikes (mostly dockless bike share) but hardly any e-bikes at all, but maybe because we've not been in hilly cities.

So pretty! I'm in China currently, and there's *so* many e-mopeds, though I didn't notice many e-motorbikes.

Also (my kiwi wife points out) only the ball carrier can be tackled in rugby, so presumably there's a lot more tackles per game in American football than rugby.

Yeah I'm just saying as far as "problems that are hard for computers to solve" computation of trajectories isn't a very tough one. E.g. it's pretty much the first thing computers were used for.

I can see how that'd work at local level - solar panels in rural areas -> urban heat pumps, though not sure how it'd be an issue at global scale? Maybe solar panels effectively reducing earth's albedo I guess? Surely you'd need a decent % of the surface to be solar panels for that to be an issue?

Pretty goddamn telling how Chris Penk fucking over his own political career and having to leave politics as a result is being hyped up as this great tragedy, when NZ's first non-binary MP having to leave politics due to threats to their and their family's lives was just the price of doing business m

My take is electorate votes are irrelevant 90% of the time anyway 😄, but good to keep for local representation/non-party candidates
010
therefromhere.bsky.social @therefromhere.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
I'd really like STV for Auckland mayor, but I think STV for MMP electorate would be too much extra complexity (both to voters understanding & to administration). MMP is fairly complex to understand already, and the party vote handles proportionality.

therefromhere.bsky.social @therefromhere.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
Takes some very unusual circumstances to be able to get this in place of course. WWII in the case of Germany, devolution from UK for Wales and Scotland. In NZ I don't entirely understand how, but I think it was some blunders by existing 2 parties (Labour/National) railroading themselves into it.
000
therefromhere.bsky.social @therefromhere.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
I like MMP in NZ (& Germany, Scotland & Wales have similar) - 50:50 proportional representation & first past the post, so you still have local constituencies. I honestly think Brexit wouldn't have happened if Cameron/Clegg coalition in 2010 had managed to deliver something like this.

Auckland sprawls worse than LA or Toronto and yet a modest change to zoning enabling a few medium-density apartment buildings (GASP!!!!) has been an endless contentious shitshow when kiwis complain about brain drain to other places they should consider the default NIMBYism of our biggest city

“How much is a magical world worth?” A beautiful thread about Cabo Verde, the Peace Corps, and the World Cup:
Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
If you ever doubt how magical this world is, one day you will decide to go to a World Cup watch party in Oakland that you found online to root for a country where you spent two years trying to coax English out of the mouths of Cape Verdean teenagers. 1/7

And at the watch party you will ask the organizer if he's from Cape Verde. He will say yes, from Praia. And you'll say oh! I lived there for two years. I was a teacher. And he will ask, "What's your name?" You will tell him and he will say,
"You were my teacher."
CABO VERDE
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 92K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
And across 30+ years and 6,000 miles you will hug a now man who tried to find you and remembered the songs you taught him and his classmates and he will apologize for how badly behaved they all were. And you will laugh and try not to cry and gape in wonder at at this crazy world.

Jill Tucker
@jilltucker

You will remember how much you love the World Cup. And what the Peace Corps meant to you. What those students, 40 to a class with no glass on the windows, meant to you.
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 62K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
Ivan, the grown man with a touch of grey in his beard, will tell you later he has struggled to describe what it meant to him to meet again - that he shared our photo with classmates.
And when he returns from watching the Cabo Verde game, we will try to find the words together.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h And then you read that the US
House of Representatives will vote a day before that game on an amendment to eliminate the Peace Corps, which costs 1/6 the price of the Tomahawk missiles the US used in the war on Iran.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker •20h And you wonder: How much is a magical world worth?
