What the government is doing to trans people is a society-wide version of Section 28. It is a level of bureaucratic cruelty that utterly decimates a whole group of people’s rights and puts anyone who doesn’t ‘look’ right in the eyes of others under constant surveillance. It’s a horrific thing.

100% this, going to the press * (seemingly before talking to the Scottish Greens) in this case was pretty reckless and more thought should have been put into the likely results of that, given the recent abuse of a marginalised person linked to this story.

If the Greens leaders are saying they didn't tell Sai this, then I think it's likely she heard this from a member with less knowledge about the election process. Objectively speaking, she was still given the wrong information. But one person's mistake/ignorance shouldn't reflect a whole party.

Alsoooo, not to beat a dead horse, but it's not impossible that someone told Sai that she couldn't become an MSP on a student visa because they genuinely just didn't know it was legal. A lot of people didn't realise it was possible until Q got elected, myself included.

Especially considering how much misinformation has been spread about Q since they became an MSP, I think it's important to remember that there's a good chance that there are no "bad guys" in this situation and this was likely human error. The last thing we need right now is more confusion. (7/?)

That was in an org with 14-30 people each year. Now imagine that in the Scottish Greens. No hate to Sai here, but I really think this was a case of miscommunication. Whenever I hear about cases like this, I always ask where the person got their information, and most importantly from whom. (5/?)

And a lot of the time, these incidents started as a game of telephone between volunteers saying "I heard from X who said that Y said [misinformation]". There was never any malicious intent behind it. Just misunderstanding. We're all human and there were quite a few of us. (4/?)

Every time this happened, it was down to simple miscommunications, usually attributed to the fact that SYP is entirely volunteer led and often run remotely. These upsets were always solved by a simple apology and explanation of what happened. (3/?)

In those two years, I saw multiple incidents of volunteers and publishers, authors, etc. getting frustrated because they had received conflicting information or because they had misunderstood something a volunteer had said to them. And then they would proceed to get upset at the co-chairs. (2/?)

Ok so I'm going to give my two cents on this. I was co-chair SYP Scotland for two years. Even though we only had an annual average of 14 volunteers (maybe 30 at a push if you include conference committee), there absolutely still were miscommunications internally and externally. (1/?)
