Even on breaks from the zephrite mines, when his Tia Ronnie's tavern was loud and rowdy with drinks ever flowing, Ari was the one to stay sober, assisting with clean-up and dragging out the worst of the inebriated lot out on their asses only for them to crawl to work the next day, hungover and reticent to their young, assistant foreman.

Ari was twenty-nine now, one year off from thirty. He didn't have time to worry about drinking on New Years when he had work in the afternoon and more work in the morning. It wasn't even Spring when Ari could look forward to the sweet mountain cider his Tia Isla brewed up once a year. Most Hepici men preferred drunken savory over the mountain sweet the old country barro-criadors were famous for. If the claymakers were known for anything, it would be making beautiful things out of the dirt.

We need one last piece to complete the collection debuting this summer, and I will concede that it should be your current priority. But you haven't outrun me yet, Lord Hyacinth. Remember our deal. I may be a patient woman, but you know as well as I that Uncle Sargon will not remain so still and silent forever."
