Why can’t we be more like the French? In France, young people are punching up at those in power demanding better education not decline and more cuts In Britain, middle-aged masked men with criminal records for domestic abuse punch down an at anyone who isn’t white In @heraldscotland.bsky.social

What French student protests reveal about Britain's broken political system
In France, even children can see that the political system needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. In Britain, we seem incapable of understanding that truth, Neil Mackay says.

You’ve got to be a special kind of prick to march in celebration of a load of catholic deaths several hundred years ago, but to want to do so in a catholic area is top-level horrific human being behaviour.

This is a hugely significant moment. For the first time since 2014, Scottish Labour accept Scotland’s right to decide our own future, just as the Prime Minister has. We now need to turn that principle into an opportunity for people to make their voice heard. news.stv.tv/politics/mic...

Burnham knew this would be the result of dropping his pledge to cap political donations, but he did it anyway. Labour are determined to midwife a Reform government, like plenty of other centrist parties before them whose weakness paved the way for right wing extremists.

Our rapid disillusionment with political leaders is treated by much of the media as some kind of pathology. But what I see is these leaders backtracking on their promises, dashing people's hopes and serving the ultra-rich ahead of the rest of the population. Why wouldn't we be disillusioned?

The legal situation for trans people is now deeply incoherent and means that it is untenable for them to be able live their lives with dignity. This is completely out of line with the values of equality that a Labour government is meant to champion. [4/5]

There's no debate which is improved by the intervention of Tony Blair. This is ableism. It frames anxiety, depression and ADHD as things people just need to get on with, with no acknowledgement of how damaging that attitude is, or how hard it can be to be recognised and diagnosed in the first place.
Block people with anxiety and ADHD from claiming benefits, says Tony Blair
