The arc of the NCAA not caring about women's sports to co-opting them to rival and usurp the AIAW in the 1980s, only to then undermine them again in 2026 (as women's sports is experiencing a major boom) is a really damning indictment of the patriarchy and how it operates.

When trans people bristled at policies that required time to be on hormones before being able to join elite competition it was because: -time on HRT was arbitrary -testosterone level achieved was arbitrary -maintaining testosterone levels continually is arbitrary -no one else had these restrictions

It’s true, in the past I would have had multiple editors in my inbox asking me to write about the Cunningham stuff. I haven’t gotten a single assignment request. Trans writers used to be tokenized to write about these things but now that the topic is “mainstream,” those bylines go elsewhere.

The end game of trying to exclude trans girls/women, intersex girls/women, and non-binary people in sport is gender surveillance and sex testing for everyone in girls and women's sports. The fact that sex testing is becoming a thing again, after its very obvious issues, is absolutely mind boggling.

In light of the Celeste Keaton verbal confrontation with two teenage protestors at the Indiana Fever - Seattle Storm game, folks need to keep in mind that a number of anti-trans figures and organizations are the equivalent of basketball players who flail and flop to sell contact regardless of whether there is any or not. And if there’s contact, even to a marginal degree, you can bet they’re going to sell it until they get a trip to the free throw line. Ultimately, people need to be more mindful of how bad faith anti-trans figures and organizations operate and also center the humanity of trans and non-binary folks.

The Problem With Using Anti-Trans Tropes to "Protect Women's Sports" substack.com/@thephdoll/n...
The problem for me whenever I hear the phrase “Protect Women's Sports” and specifically the anti-trans tropes that are generally associated with it (not always), is that actual issues like sexual assault and violence from authority figures, sex testing and gender surveillance, threats to Title IX, and access to equitable resources are not really focused on to the same degree. Instead, mainstream attention on women's sports is consumed by a few things and one of those is the exclusion of those deemed not sufficiently feminine enough to play women's sports. This has always been a feature of women's sports. Yet, instead of pushing back against this and understanding the history of sex testing and gender policing in women’s sports, the anti-trans component of the “protect women's sports” crowd is centering white, cisgender, straight, and middle to upper class femininity as the foundation and standard for women's sports.

Irresponsible reporting to let this quote stand without pushback from the reporter on the fact that there is demonstrably no danger for cis girls who are in locker rooms or sports with trans girls. (Notable that the word “trans” is not followed by “people” or “women.” Dehumanizing language.)
You say she's a "MAGA Barbie," as some corners of the internet have taken to calling her?
Projection, she says, because of what she looks like and where she's from. She'll weigh in on how to "protect women's sports," she says, because she's in that world and feels qualified to speak to that world. "I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that," she says. "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."

you’re telling me that sex/genetic testing is… ❌ not supported by science (see andrew sinclair) ❌ not ethically justified (see human rights orgs and nude parades) 💰 expensive (see chromosome test costs, etc) but they’re gonna do it anyway. if anything, this will discourage sports participation.
