John Playfair taught my biography subject #WilliamScoresbyJr in his natural history course at the U of Edinburgh in 1806—the epicenter of the Neptunism vs. Vulcanism geological debate. Scoresby leaned Neptunist! His notebook from Playfair's lectures (yes he misspelled Edinburgh on the cover):

Radiation Dose Chart from link
This is a chart of the ionizing radiation dose a person can absorb fron various sources. The unit for obsorbed dose is "sievert" (Sy), and measures the effect a dose of radiation will have on the cells of the body. One stevert (all at once) vill make you sick, and too nany more will kill you, but we safely absorb sall amounts of natural radiation daily.
Note: The same number of sieverts absorbed in a shorter time will generally couse more domage, but your cunulative long-term dose plays a big role in things like cancer risk.

Just saw a post using alt text to dump a list of key words to improve SEO. Do not do this. The first and foremost purpose of alt text is accessibility for someone who can't fully see the image. Dumping SEO terms there undermines that. It's not an html keyword meta tag. Just don't.

Thin-section prep question for the geoscientists out there. If you are impregnating your rock with resin to either stabilise it or with a coloured resin to observe porosity, do you use a vacuum chamber or a pressure chamber? What's the best protocol?
