These people seek out spaces where you can’t tell them to fuck off. There are 3 in every ER waiting room in the country right now. They’re harassing retail workers.

That 2025 stint when every institution scrambled to bow before the eternally beloved god emperor's million-year reich was weird at the time and only looks weirder and weirder in hindsight. Way way way weirder than any of the alleged excesses of Woke 1

Again, bigots will never choose bigotry-lite over the real thing. You're not going to win them but you're going to drive away people who otherwise would have voted for you. And this year -- when voters most of all want "a fighter" in Congress -- running ads about how you will not fight is idiotic.

shut MAHA down in the same way heavy regulation would. A lot of these industries can be traced to specific court cases or reforms that relaxed what you’re allowed to say and sell to people as health.

I get what you’re saying but I think what you’ve identified with the gap between what evidence based medicine is capable of and what people expect is where MAHA develops more than any kind of capitalistic or structural issue. I think we should address those issues too I just don’t think they

I don’t think the influence of Chiropractors and alt health providers and MAHA in general comes from legitimate grievances with private healthcare. It’s downstream of anti intellectualism and a general hostility toward toward expertise.

If the debate is between addressing the concerns of well meaning alt health consumers and deplatforming and isolating MAHA leaders I would argue Chiropractors represent a major reason to go with the latter. They actively proselytize anti medical sentiments to their patients. Several of the most

a lot of people want to believe that right-wing beliefs are rooted in some legitimate material grievance. that makes it easier to imagine that if we simply solved the material problem, they’d deradicalize. but they won’t, because they aren’t disillusioned, they’re just morons.

People seem even more anti intellectual when it comes to healthcare. Observe multiple Ph.D’s in English and media studies claiming they epically own their doctors who dismissed them.

I do think MAHA comes out of frustration with interaction with evidence based medicine but that’s often because the nature of evidence based medicine is that it can’t answer questions as simply and definitively as people want, whereas an alternative doc can speak as authoritatively as their pastor

As fake as this anecdote is I think it’s emblematic of the cross pollination going on from MAHA to lefty circles. You have a Ph.D in English and you’re trying to dunk on your doctor for correcting you? That impulse is fundamentally MAHA. Don’t care how much pseudo feminist rhetoric you dress it up in

“When I get sick and I can't afford medicine, what are the holistic and low-cost alternatives that I can turn to because I know that I can't afford to see a doctor?” First, holistic medicine is mostly a luxury good, not a function of poverty.

Rank and file Republicans are turning against LGBT acceptance and GOP politicians are leaning into bigotry in both rhetoric and policy. But it is you, the progressive queer or ally, who needs to open your mind and consider other people's feelings. news.gallup.com/poll/710810/...
Most of the recent changes in LGBTQ+ attitudes have occurred among Republicans. For example, in 2021 and 2022, 55% of Republicans said they favored legal same-sex marriage, but today, the figure is 37%. Among independents, support has dropped six points, to 67%, while Democrats’ views are the same as in 2022 (87% in favor).

PATH TO RECONNECTION: When a parent and adult child stop speaking, reconciliation can feel out of reach - but research suggests estrangement isn't always permanent.
One psychology researcher says the best approach isn't trying to "win" the disagreement. Instead, it can mean listening before defending yourself, focusing on specific behaviors rather than labels and being willing to make changes.
Here are 5 steps that may help create better conditions for reconnecting - while recognizing that reconciliation is never guaranteed.

Coming around to the idea that the beliefs of conservatives are categorically evil in intent/effect is difficult if you are raised with liberal sensibilities. You want to believe they’re misinformed. But it’s liberating to move beyond that, recognize they want to harm you, and tell them to fuck off.
