This is fun but also reminded me that I started toying with this stuff 6 years ago. Doesn't seem possible to me I've been around this space that long.

I used EDGE tracking data from the NHL gamecenter animations to find the location of blocked shots preceding goals in order to train a model to determine what the likely location of a blocked shot would be. You can see the model's results here: claude.ai/artifact/6Jr...

Yeah I meant in the correlation results. New features have to pull impact from somewhere so probably bigger change for lower TOI players. If you're already ignoring them, that shouldn't be it. Micah's suggestion is probably worth looking at or even just how much the penalties change between fits.

Working in sports you get so many people asking for advice on how to get in, and they are really disappointed to hear “get lucky”. Yes you have to meet a minimum bar but a lot of people do One good way to increase the odds you get lucky? Be a good person, treat people well, don’t be transactional

In case you hadn't seen, back when the animations first came out I went through them for one season and, for any that didn't have the puck going in the net at any point, documented what issue caused it. Couldn't say how much it's improved since then. github.com/the-bucketle...

Yeah the misses were a tiny sample of what is already the dominant class. Posts aren't the highest n either but they're all minority class in something with heavy imbalance so it makes more sense that they could have an impact.

If 1% of missed shots in 21/22 were hiding so much useful info on goalies, that'd be a pretty crazy finding, no? Is that even double digit shots per goalie?

The Bucketless @thebucketless.bsky.social · 11/08/2026
Did you compare results with the same logistic regression using only shots and/or shots plus posts? If these missed contact shots would have been called saves in the past, seems odd you'd get something different than older models by including them. Unless I'm missing something and should feel silly.

Most difficult challenge I did was no optional EXP with only yellow materia and, somewhat surprisingly, beating Sephiroth wasn't a tough part of that (though it did take a long time to wear him down). PS Not the biggest gamer, but I've been enjoying seeing FF7 in the timeline.

My guess would be they're getting the time from the score bug on the screen and that it wasn't visible in those frames. I haven't looked but you can probably interpolate based on the frame rate. As for the puck, I'm kinda surprised it's in there at all. That's tough to get from video.
