Seriously. It's overdone, incredibly frustrating and makes your "cool" character look like a complete fuckwad and ultimately responsible for things going wrong, for refusing to just _talk_ to the protagonist. There are SO few cases where this trope actually works out. (AA3 being one, IMHO)

Playing an otherwise fun indie adventure game on GBC and seeing my """favorite""" trope. Your guide is almost definitely evil and some edgy looking, but secretly good guy keeps attacking you and going "You fool, you will doom us all!" when you win, without actually elaborating. So tired of this. 🙄

EG fell for it too. :( The Capcom presentation contains a slide with "AI世代のゲームエンジンへ" - the article omits the "へ", for one, but the issue is that while 世代 means 'generation', it's in the 'console generation' sense, not like GenAI. Without へ, translation software gets it totally wrong.

1) This isn't about generating games or assets with AI, it's just about using automation tools for some processes like bug testing which isn't inherently bad 2) IGN should be embarrassed for this headline. It doesn't say "AI generation" as in generative AI, it's 世代, "generation" as in "time period"

The things AI can be sort of useful for are also things that don’t require the level of scaling (and therefore environmental damage) we are seeing and don’t require theft (because they need bespoke data sets that are carefully created and curated).
