PAC was one of the greatest high-flyers of all time, one of the greatest technicians I've ever seen, an unbelievable athlete, and someone who could wrestle as tough and gritty as anyone. Could talk, had great presence. He made you want to believe. He was a special talent.

one of my favorite guys working today and as good as he was it still felt like he hadn't hit his ceiling. there was so much left for Pac to do. he'll go down as one of the best to never win a world title.

games take so long to develop that i think we're still living in the wake of his decisions and might be for a while yet. i wouldn't be surprised if part of the calculus involved in cutting costs w/, say, Kojima came in part because so much money was flushed down the drain with his live service push

man i think this actually makes the Link design click for me. at least, just Link and maybe Zelda in a vacuum. the game still seems too inconsistent visually though. like i don't think this comes across on the other NPCs in Castle Town, or in the world design

yeah DS2 tries to pull some of the same "series finale" beats as MGS4, but it doesn't have the cast of characters or the decades-long history to pull it off. very funny when it just starts repeating MGS aesthetics, concepts, even iconic lines to fill in the gap

nothing will ever surpass the Oath in Felghana style of Ys for me, but i think i like the old bump system more than the action RPG skill spam era of 7 and onward

have always been skeptical of bump combat, but i've been finally playing through Ys 1 + 2 lately and old me was wrong. there really is something compelling to its simplicity. "what if we made the entire game out of positioning?"
