Worth reading the study itself. Fundamentally, if you give people an instant answer button, they'll just use it rather than actually learning anything, even if they don't realize that is what they are doing.

We don't live in slop world because of AI, we live in slop world because the purpose of everything is to generate a return on investment for capital. We evaluate everything along metrics designed to serve that purpose over any other. AI is just the best way we found of optimizing for these metrics.

"The largest theft of labor in human history." We done knew it. (www.404media.co/doom-loop-op...)
Executives working on AI at Microsoft and OpenAI admitted what its critics have been saying all along: Large language models are predatory pieces of technology that have been built on what a Microsoft executive called “an astonishing theft of unprecedented proportions,” and the “largest theft of labor in human history.” An internal Microsoft document said generative AI products have created a “doom loop” that is killing “the entire web.”

"It's only a dragon if it has four legs and wings, if it has two legs and wings it's a wyvern" no, that's only in the heraldry of the British Isles – it isn't even universally true in other Western European heraldric traditions, much less in folklore more broadly.

TLDR: Using pornography is perfectly normal and healthy. There are certainly problems with the industry, but addiction isn't one of them. Dysregulation related to porn use is overwhelmingly caused by factors other than the porn (usually religious views). www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/wome...

Science Stopped Believing in Porn Addiction, You Should, Too
Research finds that porn-related problems are predominantly caused by religious conflict. Clinically, this means people need help, but not necessarily with the porn.

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

Grifters generating metric f*cktons of slop and bogus biographies about people without consent is absurd, wrong, and, unfortunately, predictable. (See our article all the way back from 2024! ellipsus.com/blog/the-dis...) 🧵👇 (🔗 www.nytimes.com/2026/07/16/t...)
Still from NYT article:

"Two business school professors, curious about A.I. books and whether anyone actually likes them, gathered data about 10 million books published on Amazon over the last five years. They found that the number of e-books published per month had tripled since the release of ChatGPT, to more than 300,000 at the end of last year, from around 100,000 in 2022. (Amazon said that its internal metrics did not show that level of growth, but would not share its figures.)"

Keep up the pressure! #SaveSpeech
In the last two weeks, we have seen a wave of censorship sweep across online retailers, particularly Steam and Itch.io. This is because of demands from payment processors as well as sex-negative activist groups like Collective Shout (originally reported by journalist Ana Valens, and then censored by VICE’s parent company).

UVW affirms that sex and sexuality belong in games. Games are works of art, created by workers who should be free to express themselves. It's important to encourage a healthy and critical discourse about the media we consume. One vocal minority cannot have the power to categorically silence creative expression, just because some sexual themes make some people uncomfortable.

Sexual art is art, sex work is work. Any attempt to suppress sexual art is an attempt to suppress all art. Any attempt to deny sex workers their dignity is an attempt to deny all workers their dignity.

Workers rely on platforms like Steam and itch.io to distribute their games, and it is workers who are suffering at the behest of this vocal minority. We call on the payment processors Mastercard, Visa, Stripe, and any other companies demanding compliance with this unjust action to reverse their policies and stand with the workers who have lined their pockets for years with their labor. We call on Valve and the Itch.io leadership to reverse their policies and stand with game developers.

We encourage our members and the general games community to use the resources in the quoted post to contact these payment processors directly and express how strongly we object to their actions.
