it's crazy how i feel like this guy took the thing i said just yesterday on here about how the primary thing i got harassed and disrespected for on the internet in the 2010's by these types was not for being trans or even a lefty, but just being a woman - and he just manifested that idea here.

A recent Genshin Impact update reveals yet another striking actor has been recast. Here is the apathy it receives in response. Shame on anyone who thinks the strike would ever “become an invalid reason” in this context. These people are fighting for AI protections. Support them.
A post on the Genshin Impact subreddit announcing the recasting of the character Kinich

The text reads:

After Version 5.5 is updated, Kinich's VA will be updated to Jacob Takanashi (this change only applies to new content in Version 5.5, historical content will be gradually updated in subsequent versions).

A response from a Reddit user states:

I know nothing about HSR's situation, but in ZZZ, both VAs were non-union but striking anyway.

Nothing was keeping them from working.
Can't say I know enough about Kinich's actor, but if the Strike becomes an invalid reason for him to stop voicing the character then I imagine the same applies to him.An exchange between two users about the recasting

One says:

I think hoyo is running out of patience with the strike and will slowly recast actors that refuse to come back.

The response from the other is:

Frankly, it's been a long time coming, Hoyo was very respectful and willing to work through this situation for a long time, but it's fundamentally effected the game for EN players and I'm sure it's being reflected in their data.A Reddit user stating:

This is unfortunate but at the same time, it's something that must be done. It's almost half a year already.

Again, specifically because they want to use AI to replicate actors' voices. In case that aspect of things is getting lost in the shuffle.

Actually I'd argue the worst case scenario is the company refusing to sign the interim agreement and starting to recast both non-union and union actors indiscriminately. That's the scenario we're currently in, by the way.

Sharing an excerpt of facebook screenshot of Amanda Gailey:

As someone who uses Signal every day, I need to explain how totally committed to being an absolute dumbass multiple people had to be in order for this security leak to happen.
Okay, so in Signal if you want to talk to multiple people you have to create a group and give it a name, for example "JD Vance Humps His Couch." You then add people from your contacts to the group. If you are a competent user of Signal, you can then restrict the permissions so that only designated admins can add people. If you are an absolute dipshit whose only job qualification is pwning the libs on Twitter, you would create a group about war plans and not know about or activate this functionality.
If you are in a group and are allowed to add members, either because you are an admin or because the admin was raised on lead paint milkshakes, you then must do the following to add someone:
Click on "JD Vance Humps His Couch"
Scroll down to "Add Members."
Select one or more people from your phone's contact list.
Click "Update"
Confirm that yes, you want to add that member.
This is impossible to do accidentally.
Then, once you have gone through the multi-step process of adding a member, an announcement appears on the screen for literally everyone in the group to see: "JD Vance Has Added Chairry to the Group." This sentence is a line in a single-stream text thread and if anyone is reading their messages they cannot miss it. (If they are not reading their messages, one might wonder why they have been included on the chat to begin with.)
At this point, anyone can say in the chat or privately, Hey JD, why are you adding the bedroom-eyed plush chair from Pee-Wee's Playhouse to our chat about your upholstery problem?
Yet nobody in the war bro chat said a thing about the new member added to the group.

finally someone else on this godforsaken earth agrees with me (source: specchioscuro.it/the-puritani...)
The desire to exclusively engage with media and art made by “unproblematic” artists is a direct result of Americans viewing media consumption as an inherently political act because that is the supreme promise of Western prosperity and the religion of consumerism, and because it’s seemingly all that’s left. We’ve been stripped and socialized out of any real political energy and agency. Our ability to consume is the only thing remaining that’s “ours” in late capitalism, and as a result it’s become a stand-in for (or perhaps the sole defining quality of) every aspect of being alive today — consuming is activism, it’s love, it’s thinking, it’s sex, it’s fill in the blank. When the act of consuming is all you have left and indeed the only thing society tells you is valuable and meaningful, the act must necessarily be a moral one, which is why people send themselves down manic spirals deciding what, who is “problematic” or not, because for us the stakes are that high now.

The whole “does copyright prevent AI fair use” conversation is, to me, a bit flawed. Because what matters is that it SHOULD. The ostensible premise for copyright (and all intellectual property) is that it protects the creator of ideas or art. That another person profiting from it is a bad thing.

…this is insane????
interview between NPR (Martin) and Troy Edgar, deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security

Martin: Is any criticism of the United States government a deportable offense?

Edgar: Like I said, if you go through the process and you're a student and you're here on a visa and you go through it, at any point …

Martin: Is any criticism of the government a deportable offense?

Edgar: Let me put it this way, Michel, imagine if he came in and filled out the form and said, 'I want a student visa.' They asked him, 'What are you going to do here?' And he says, 'I'm going to go and protest.' We would have never let him into the country.

Martin: Is protesting a deportable offense?

Edgar: You're focused on protests. I'm focused on the visa process. He went through a legal process ...

Martin: Are you saying he lied on his application? He's a lawful permanent resident, married to an American citizen.

Edgar: I think if he would have declared he's a terrorist, we would have never let him in.

Martin: And what did he engage in that constitutes terrorist activity?

Edgar: I mean, Michel, have you watched it on TV? It's pretty clear.

Michel: No, it isn't. Well, explain it to those of us who have not or perhaps others have not. What exactly did you do?

Edgar: Well, I think it's clear or we wouldn't be talking about it. I mean, the reality is that if you watch and see what he's done on the university …

Martin: Do you not know? Are you telling us that you're not aware?

Edgar: I find it interesting that you're not aware.
