Experimental post: The Duality of Whacka In the Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Whacka can finally be fought, and has a suspiciously specific 108 HP. The game both offers a ridiculously simplistic explanation for this as well as a complex one steeped in Dharmic symbolism.

In Paper Mario, the original version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Super Paper Mario, Whacka was just a harmless whack-a-mole creature that could be abused to get Whacka Bumps, extremely valuable healing items. After being hit enough times, the Whacka goes extinct, teaching the players the consequences of their actions. However, in the Switch version of Paper Mario: TTYD, he instead moves to the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and becomes an optional superboss with 108 HP.
He is fought at the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and has to be hit 8 times in order for the fight to activate.
but also
The number 108 is considered sacred by the Dharmic religions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
Whacka symbolizes karma for killing him in past games
ring the bell 108 times, per Japanese tradition? The ringing of the bell represents the 108 bonno-defilements of man..
Buddhism holds the view that there are precisely 108 temptations on the path to Nirvana.
Therefore, in order to reach Nirvana, every Buddhist must resist 108 earthly temptations.
With a combination of any of the elements of the above four factors, there are 108 ways with which the karmas can be attracted to the soul.
the earthly temptation to get those Whacka Bumps
There are 108 qualities of praiseworthy souls
Some people think that the human spirit travels through 108 stages, while others believe that enlightenment is attainable with just 108 breaths each day while in Intense meditation,
108 beads to awaken your inner light
Meditators count mantra repetitions with mala beads of 108, (100 counted for self, 8 for mistakes and for those who have not the opportunity to meditate in mantra)
108 breaths to return to your truth
108 mantras to dissolve ego into dever
108 steps from the self to the soul
The Sacred Meaning of 108 Temple Steps
the journey to Whacka is a journey of enlightenment

the sense of discovery & the gameplay itself of course are immaculate but there are those little irks that i hope end up feeling a bit better as i progress. it is also funny how my favorite parts of the game so far have been The traditional ass dark souls dungeons and not Tha Big New Open World. Lol

temperaterror 👻 @temperaturo.bsky.social · 20h

the open world is nice & very pretty but then i will come across a mine/dungeon and go "oh i know this layout" or come across a new enemy and go "oh ive fought this guy before" or get to a cool area a little late and trounce it without any thought so some of the impact is lost and i go "Hrrrm" again

i am not sure if i'll end up liking elden ring more than all 3 of the dark soul games. itll be somewhere between probably. im nowhere near close to done & i played it for like 8 hrs straight today alone mind you but still. something about the way it is structured makes me rub my chin and go "hrrrm."

favorite/most scyeariest part was everything that happens inside the house, including the main guy's youtuber commentary. to keep it vague i'm not sure if i particularly liked the ending but maybe i'll like it more the longer i sit on it. otherwise it was a blast and shivered my timbers a fair bit!!

36. Resident Evil (2026) even as someone who's barely touched the franchise this was such a good thrill-ride kind of horror movie. i enjoy how a lot of the levity and humor was executed and balanced with the crazy amount of horrific murder and gore that goes down. of which there is a lot. like a LOT

temperaterror 👻 @temperaturo.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

35. Open Season (Revisit) peaks with the gas station scene where they break in at night and eat lots of snacks because i wanted to do that as a kid. nothing else of note about this movie whatsoever. i wasn't even really nostalgic for it outside of that. thoroughly vapid experience. thank you ewan

34. Robot Dreams SO wonderful... shame i didn't see it earlier!! its an emotional rollercoaster, and the message and ending really resonated with me despite not uttering a single word. such a lovely movie that touches on so many beautiful little aspects of life in lots of little ways. also yaoi. :-)

33. Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise crazy ass movie. the inciting incident is like 12,000 nine elevens. very fun and funny. the ending was a bit of a letdown but otherwise i smiled and had a wonderful time and got to look at a beautiful timid man wearing glasses as well.

32. Coyote vs. Acme awesome movie with tons of good bits and a shockingly engaging story that goes in some fascinating directions. the 3d looks quite ugly sometimes but thats like my only gripe lol. i decree the warner brothers will get their arms torn off by hungry wolves. love the yaoi godbless.

31. Muppet Treasure Island really good! not my favorite muppet movie but still very fun. there's always so much thought and care put into the presentation and craftsmanship of these muppet movies i always appreciate them for that. and tim curry absolutely stole the show of course. magnificent man

(blows the dust off "media thread 2026") Ohh my GOD wow. Yeah. Ive been a busy bee haven't I. NUmber 30!! Zombie Land Saga Season 2. I like this show its rlly funny I like the stupid male character. I want to hold him by the scruff and for him to yell at me vainly until he cries like in the picture.

The male character "Kotaro Tatsumi" violently crying outside
