the Ohio Democratic party is purging its ranks by forcing trans people to either resign or go along with politicians who threaten their existence and calling a pride group an "unwelcoming distraction." If we're just a distraction, then win without our votes and get rid of the fake "pride" orgs 👍🏾

This should be so obvious that it doesn’t need to be said, but given what kind of weekend it’s been on here, apparently it does: If you don’t want old rapists running the world, in office, in the board room, making decisions for all of us get comfortable with “ruining” young rapists’ lives

From the beginning one of my biggest issues with this person is that it is my FIRM BELIEF that once you ask people to sign their IP over to you, there is simply a higher bar of responsibility for how you behave in professional spheres & also how you let your mental health impact those people.

I'd be OK with private schools taking vouchers under 3 conditions: 1) Every student who applies with a voucher must be accepted 2) The voucher constitutes full tuition including transportation 3) The school accepting vouchers must follow all regulations followed by public schools, including IDEA.

I find this claim, which is now common in right-wing ed discourse, really astonishing. It rests at the core of the post-truth vision of "viewpoint diversity": we should not teach the conclusions that research shows to be correct; rather, we should validate empirically discredited ideas just because.
Fostering this civic orientation does not mean teaching students the “right” way to think or act
according to a preferred political or moral perspective. A transformative education is premised
on developing sound judgment, not on delivering correct conclusions.

Again, the US isn't structurally racist because people *feel* it is. The US is structurally racist because empirical research across a wide range of fields, from history to sociology to economics, has *shown* it to be. This is the right way to think about US history, and people should be taught it.

Cosmetology is highly skilled labor. Women have much poorer career prospects at every level with unstyled hair. Ppl expect styled hair in teachers clerks bus drivers etc as well as c suite. We depend on stylists as much as we do on childcare and home health aides. The gender cost difference is wild.
