If I added you when I made the account, you know me*. Servant to a wee dog, a novel in progress and a lot of strawberry plants. No politics here, for personal reasons. Not a histscalemodeler *Except for the big accounts, cause I'm not that memorable.

We love writing for its mad obsessions and singular randomness: those personal quirks that make it human. More important than polish is the amount of yourself you put into it.

the scene where he threw metaphorical grenades into my carefully nurtured romance and intimacy arcs, grinned and said "It's what I would do" so part of me is like "Ha, tables turned young man." Except I want to give him a big hug and tell him everything will be alright too.

I am breaking both of my main characters' hearts at the same time 💔 It's a very strange experience, with a mix of emotions as I finished transcribing the Big Scene and realised I had it mostly written. Oh no, my poor babies + well, that is maybe good. Also it changes the emotions for MMC esp in

I've long theorised that Hollywood's obsession with plot structure and disregard for characters comes from the material and social structure of LA making it very hard to get to know anyone properly. People are peons in a vast inhuman system. Silicon Valley is the same, minus the humanities.

Oh hi there - just a reminder that AI use isn’t just about the thieving of generative AI. Whatever someone might be using any AI features for is contributing to massive environmental damage and destruction as well as human health problems (let’s talk about infrasound).

Oh. Wee dog got his lunch out of me early because I thought it was noon already. Treat strip pieces in the scratch board. Another in the snuffle ball. Boring kibble in the red rolly. Better in the spinner. He is considering being full.

There's much more I can write about, like Thais' ability to put fun (sanook) into anything, embed grief and trauma narratives into comedy, and their fantastic fluidity with tone and 'genre'. But this is probably a more useful start for western writers. Happy to help anyone interested find movies

revelation opens it out into its poignancy. Can be sudden or gradual. It makes for unhurried storytelling where the emotions have as much time as they need to expand and breathe. It's like spending time with friends rather than racing through crowded plots. More relaxing and every bit as satisfying

Kishotenketsu is the most discussed in English, easy to find loads of explanations under the term or "Japanese plot structure" When Thai movies are just over two hours, they tend to follow this structure. I didn't know the framework but I saw it playing out over and over skdesu.com/en/kishotenk...

In terms of mechanics, this is simply shifting dialogue inward. There's nothing wrong with it, it's not 'bad writing', and it's clear who's thinking this. If anyone truly finds it confusing, that's on them and conditioned expectations.

Still a lot of writing to do but maybe I finally know how to integrate the dynamic of this big new drama beat into the existing text. That 'after' image is going to have another earlier dip which gives everything after more impact. That spike will be higher, which will make the fall greater.

Or just some snips from sections w POV changes, that's easy. I've had to read up enough to stand my ground when critiquers complain, so it's a subject I've thought about a lot. Not an expert but I can share what I've learned. Examples clearer so here's one of mine, explanations in alt text
Context is FMC is observing an unknown man in the rainforest. They're both concerned about an unexpected & unidentified group of armed men who've passed by as if they were patrolling. She needs to understand who they are and what they are doing.
**
The quietest path around him comes closer than she wants. You against me, she thinks. Are your senses better than my skill? And how careful are you of what might be behind.

Yes, she can do this. Settling herself, she draws breath into her core and glides out into the night. Around her everything is still, the hidden fauna of the rainforest sensitive to her movement.

-- HER POV + TRANSITION to neutral, like the camera is tight focused on her, then pulls out before it tight focuses briefly on HIS POV below --

He looks around as she passes, feeling uneasy, as if he were in the presence of a ghost. It is too quiet. He does not see her pause behind a tree, just a shadow waiting for his attention to disperse again.

-- End of his POV brings her back in and the TRANSITION below is to They + neutral before it slides back into her POV --

They both wait. The patrol has long since left their earshot and the risks she will have to take to find them again are increasing. This man whose vigilance has her pinned is patient. Why is he here, what is he doing?

Once more, he glances in the direction the armed men went. And then back to the unsettling feeling he cannot shake that he is not alone. He moves with care and deliberation, making his way through the trees.

She observes him – he is good. And he’s not following the men, he’s heading away from them. Are they hunting him? There is no desperation in his movement. He is wary, not fearful, listening as he travels, with more care than the men warrant. That will be for her, there’s no one else.

I think we have probably massively underestimated how much our sense of self is composed of what we see of others. Consumer capitalism has told us that our self can be entirely constructed independently of others. The slipperiness of scrolling makes our self more slippery.

L&L seem set on avoiding AI for several reasons. The ones they talk about publicly lean practical, which are harder for pro-AI folks to argue with in comments. All in all it sounds like they recognise they have something that works and don't want the headaches of changing how they do things.

not 'bad writing', or inherently confusing, but it can be done badly if we aren't careful. Helps to get the reader used to how you do it with small, less consequential moments early. I can take a look at some of yours if you like. emmadarwin.substack.com/p/the-tool-k...

Three different colour-ways, all melanges. Purple base, blue base, burgundy base. Inspired by a fedi friend who knits socks. I never managed socks, a cowl I can handle though. Neighbour gave me a neckwarmer she doesn't use that is now around the wee dog's middle to see if it's too warm or good.

But of course these qualities confound the majority of readers I have language access to, so sharing isn't going so well. When I try to write to western expectations, it comes out cliched and dull. Not something I can do well, have to leave that to others.
