The US TikTok ban, along with Musk’s X and Zuckerberg’s decision to forego fact checking, is laying the groundwork for North Korea-esque levels of media control in the States. Feels like we’re moving backwards to the days of traditional media dependence, except no one is consuming it anymore.

I wrote this Facebook post 5 years ago today, when I was 22 and full of hope and energy. How utterly depressing that so much of it remains relevant. The struggle for a better world goes on.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, use your vote. With every passing day that Parliament is in deadlock, our NHS suffers. Those on Universal Credit suffer. Disabled people suffer. Minorities suffer. Children lying on hospital floors suffer. People suffer.

Vote for parties that care. Vote tactically. Vote for the party or person that is most likely to win whose values you can live with to keep out something much, much worse.

Brexit is the reason this election has been called, and it is important. It’s so important. But it’s only one issue, and a society is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable.

Remember to bring your photo ID with you tomorrow to your polling station. Make sure you have your voice heard in this crucial election.
