Is Evener available? How are you doing glm inference? Self hosting, a sub or by token? I spent this week using glm through pi.

It’s moving, but where are the people? This project was supposed to open over three years ago and is almost $1 billion over budget. What went wrong?

What state are you in? Is it fiber or DSL?

Scott @tannewt.org · 25/07/2026
Fiber is much better than cable internet. (Fast upload speeds too!) Definitely worth a try. Note that Quantum was CenturyLink but was bought by AT&T. ir.lumen.com/news/news-de... I have it at two spots in Ballard and see very little downtime per year.

We love this! This is how we envisioned voters making fast AND informed choices! Some races have unanimous consensus (see top county council example). When that agreement bar drops lower (see bottom justice #5), you can tell immediately that race has nuance and civic debate, even among leftys!

Or we could simply talk about why people live here for more reasons than the tax code. Washington is a beautiful area with friendly folks and mild weather. *And* that we could make it even better by stabilizing revenue for governments at all levels.

1. The data center boom isn’t a neutral response to public need. It’s a speculative race by Amazon, Google, Meta & Microsoft to consolidate control over AI and extend their monopoly power — while shifting huge costs onto the rest of us. Here's ILSR's guide to what we need to do.

The Policies Communities Need to Meet the AI Moment
Safeguarding community self-determination and well-being, tackling monopoly power, and building small-scale distributed alternatives are the keys to protecting communities during the data center boom.

So what should happen instead? Go get more money! From the legislature, from voters. Find ways to build affordably. Automated rail, cut and cover, smaller stations, etc. Do it now. Don't gut our rail expansion effort and take away our region's future. As Graham Street shows, delays are forever.

Yes! Data centers are OK... If you do them with green power (directly or indirectly) from the start.

Here's a crazy idea: maybe we shouldn't consider data centers "the future" if that future is being designed by about 10 people with demonstrably hideous ideas and no imagination? Maybe we start by demanding that they meet OUR standards?

Data centers make sense only if we do them right | Op-ED
With our people-friendly government and a proud tradition of renewable energy, Seattle is well-placed to show that siting data centers can be done differently.

Half of Democrats are status quo, study everything to death, no new taxes types that don't get anything done because it'd be bad for them. So, you don't actually have a majority who want things to improve because that'd be change.

We've got plenty of concrete blocks in Ballard they could use that businesses (I assume) put on the planting strip to prevent homeless tents and RVs.

Scott @tannewt.org · 22/04/2026
I'm OK with data centers but only if they use clean (wind and solar, not "clean" gas) and provide funding for twice as much power as they'll use. They could buy us all solar panels for our roofs.

Picnic tables at golden gardens near the playground? Worked well for a four year olds birthday party. No roads to cross to playground and only traffic is the parking lot nearby.

How many car lanes do we need to trade per light rail track? 15th has 4 or 5 most of the way. Alskan way at the waterfront has too many (4 iirc) too. Skip the tunnels, just replace roads.

Over a couple generations, the neighborhood pattern will resemble the perimeter block with courtyard interiors that many people really appreciate. Seattle is going to grow. Why not set the zoning rules so we incentivize the kinds of urban housing that are super popular
a diagram of a the same block after a couple generations of infill development highlights the difference in green open space. The courtyard scheme has slightly more units, and much more trees, landscape and amenity spaces. Drawing by CAST architecture / Matt Hutchins
