This is the flip side of the hydration breaks. If you’re serious about player welfare there needs to be a maximum (wet bulb) temperature over which you don’t play.

This is a critical point: *today*, even in countries that don’t introduce policies & measures to support it, consumers can unilaterally enact electrification and demand destruction

Taking the positives from the last month - we’re still in a good position in every competition, despite our attack struggling. But we don’t win the trophies we want without players getting fitter and coming back in to form. We might need a tactical tweak too.

when big tech companies say that AI will save the planet, what kinds of AI are they actually talking about — and what's their proof? i took a look at some great new research from @ketanjoshi.co and talked to other experts about how a lot of this talk is probably bullshit:
wired.com
Big Tech Says Generative AI Will Save the Planet. It Doesn't Offer Much Proof
A new report finds that of 154 specific claims about how AI will benefit the climate, just a quarter cited academic research. A third included no evidence at all.

This is also true for difficult or 'controversial' policy and legislation. You will lose sometimes. Even often. But you can lose badly - shrink away from ambition, give concessions to the opposition for free, stop trying at all - or you can lose well.

TIL that a curfew is also a literal object! the word has its roots in the French couvrefeu - "cover fire" - and was used to denote a bell rung to warn people to cover their fires overnight to prevent the outbreak of flames between wooden houses. a curfew was a bell-shaped cover for embers!

This probably means our business for the summer is over. I think we've done well - especially in strengthening the midfield. I'm higher than most on Noni, but I think our attack is deeper, not significantly better. Our best starting three in most games is probably still Martinelli-Havertz-Saka.
