Everything about City's recent transfer spending suggests they were preparing to be found guilty and trying to minimize the impacts of that guilty verdict.

I chucked City's accounts into AI and graphed where the Premier League have found the owners were putting extra money in. Now look at the trend in their commercial revenue after 2018. Did the additional funding really stop then? (Would welcome any corrections to this.)

The response from City fans and spokespeople is mad. But, I also think there’s a real issue that this is a scandal about money and law and they’re just a little bit complicated.

If, according to the panel, Manchester City cheated and witnesses told mistruths about Abu Dhabi sponsorships why wouldn’t those self same companies and those connected with them also not be in exactly the same situation? They are part of the scheme.

Explaining Manchester City’s Premier League appeal process and how long it could take
City have said they will appeal after being found guilty of all but one of the more than 100 Premier League charges the club faced.

I’m trying to work out the minimum realistic penalty City will face. - Everton were docked six points for one season they had a small breach - so nine points per season minimum? 81 point penalty, transfer ban, and fine in the tens of millions, minimum?

In September 2008, this Arsenal team, built from minimal cost, developed by Arsene Wenger, beat Porto 4-0 in the Champions League. Also in September 2008, Manchester City were purchased by Abu Dhabi. Over the following 6 years, Manchester City acquired more than half of this starting line-up.

Good summary here. Maguire’s best guess: - fine in at least multiple tens of millions - at least 6 point penalty for every year they were in breach - City very limited grounds to appeal - i.e on the composition of panel not on evidence - verdict likely to be damning for some high-ranking City execs

The current rules don’t preserve the existing club hierarchy. And a lot of smart clubs who’ve invested well within these rules - say Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton or even us - have lost out on money, places, and players to those playing with a cheat code.

Maybe a bit early to discuss the process whatever the outcome may be here. But Man City investigation started in 2018. The club was charged more than 3 years ago. In that time, the team has continued unmolested, recruiting at incredible fees, winning at great frequency. The PL still can’t comment.

Slightly depressing best guess at punishment: Big fine. One-off points deduction that leaves them just short of relegation. Transfer ban (which would explain how hard they went over the summer).

Everyone knew that City were guilty. Not everyone expected them to get punished. My worry is that Chelsea got off very lightly. Even if they did cooperate.

One thing people underrate about the Premier League is that basically every team is among the top 30 richest in the world. And at least 15 of them are among the top 30 best teams in the world. Brighton and Brentford would have a good chance at making the top 8 in the Champions League. Spurs did.

I know Spurs are 20th but I still think, like us, they’ll have a good season. They’ll avoid relegation and we’ll win the league.
