This is a good day to ponder what an amazing deal B.C. residents have enjoyed thanks to public auto insurance. Avg nominal premiums are no higher than 9 years ago when J.Horgan was elected Premier, vs 45% avg increase in Canada and 119% in next-door Alberta. Data from StatsCan. #bcpoli

Over the ten years, Premier Smith claims Alberta faced a hostile federal government, oil and gas production doubled, and Ottawa poured tens of billions into energy infrastructure. The tolerance of her big lie is almost as remarkable as the lie itself. ow.ly/Fl7950ZRRaq

New inflation data out today and wow what can you say about these Alberta car insurance rates other than ... wow. 😳
Car insurance prices in Alberta have far outpaced every other province

Alberta is now at an index value of more than 400. No other province is above 250.

An index value of 100 is equal to the average price for insurance in Canada over all 12 months of 2002.

Huge kudos to Jen for thinking of victims of domestic violence and putting their safety above all. Not all journalists would get a scoop like this and sit on it, choosing instead to try to protect the vulnerable first. It’s so gross that Elections Alberta then did jack shit about it for a MONTH.
Excerpt from Jen Gerson’s Substack piece: “For very real reasons. The voter file can be used to harass public figures, or track down victims of stalking and domestic violence, which is why the database isn't supposed to be bandied about carelessly. Holders of the file need to know who can read the data and be able to conduct internal audits of the information they are pulling from it.”Excerpt from Jen Gerson’s Substack piece: “This situation, however, put me in a bit of a journalistic pickle. If I just went out and reported on it, I knew anybody would be able to sign up and access the same data — which could potentially put people in danger of exposure.
So, I did what I thought was the right thing.
With my source's consent, I contacted Elections Alberta directly and told them what I was seeing.”
