One of my fave SG1 eps is called Upgrades, where 3 of the team receive armbands that give them extra strength, mental abilities (and appetite), but of course it gets out of control ;D

One of my favorite things while watching TV shows is when the Props Dept has some fun with all the little handmade drawing hijinks that are shown for less than 10 seconds on camera. I hope the cast and crew get a good laugh about it too when they have to act around it.

Mulder's hilarious drawing of Big Naturals Bigfoot. The X-Files 1x05

Spike's drawing of Angel that he taped onto a punching bag. Buffy the Vampire Slayer 7x22

Giles' visual slideshow presentation during the episode 'Hush'. Buffy the Vampire Slayer 4x10

Sam's 'attempt' at being a sketch artist. Supernatural 3x05

There's a bit in Animorphs where Ax, the resident alien living among humans, talks about noticing how much humans fucking love rectangles and incorporate them into everything around them, and when I first read that it ruined my life.

Dude, X-Files had 24-25 episodes come out each season, reasonably high production values, and they didn't take a 2-3 year gap each season. Pretty cool that execs used to order ahead based on the strength of their conviction instead of waiting to see how people responded to reach release.

we had the american model of tv (one million episodes a season with some crap inevitably ending up in there) and we had a british model of tv (3 episodes a season but each one's pretty good) and somehow streaming ended up with the worst of both parts (3 dogwater eps in an 8 episode season)

I think every new Disney film needs a Kingdom of the Sun/Frozen2 style documentary about how insane the WDAS production pipeline is. Hearing how much goes on behind the scenes, between complete rewrites and last minute changes that make artists scramble for months to meet deadlines for, is baffling.

also multi season runs literally is job security. a show running for 8 seasons is basically a decade of guaranteed jobs for actors, writers, artists, designers, and anything else adjacent to it. It builds portfolios and allows for mentoring/training. maddening streaming turned TV into a gig hustle

The Churchyard's Watchful Protector

In a snow-covered churchyard in front of a large gothic church, a large black dog with glowing eyes sits among the graves. The graves are weathered and covered in lichens, and capped with snow. Behind them stands a grand gothic stone church with many large indicate windows separated by buttresses (each topped by a pinnacle), with a tall central bell tower. Around it to the right are tall but bare trees. All are set against a smooth blanket-like cloudscape.

You should be more upset about what has been taken from us. Eight to ten 40-minute episode seasons every 2-3 years, versus twenty-two 45-minute episode seasons released yearly on a tighter budget. Imagine how much more characters could be developed, more interesting concepts to be played with.

Every frame's a painting. Except for modern TV shows and movies on exclusive streaming platforms. Where everything looks like it's missing a thick layer of varnish.

A screenshot from Widow's Bay of an inn lit from the inside on a dark night scene. The outline of man with a suitcase stands in the foreground, but you can barely make him out because the contrast is so awful.

A screenshot from Widow's Bay. A man stands in a wood paneled room thats lit with warm light. Everything looks hazy because current DPs are allergic to punchy contrast and color grade has to make sure all detail is lost in the shadows.
