Super Mario Sunshine is surprisingly more realistic than later Mario games in one specific aspect: here, Mario will start drowning if he hangs on to a ledge in such a way that water is flowing into his nose and mouth, as one would in real life.

Observe Mario holding on to a ledge that water is flowing over in Super Mario Galaxy (left) and Super Mario Odyssey (right). If realistic physics applied, he should start drowning since his nostrils and mouth are covered by water flowing into them.
However, in these games the air depletion/drowning state is tied to the swimming animation. As long as Mario is not visibly swimming, he cannot be drowning even if he is covered by water.
In Super Mario Sunshine, however, air depletion is decoupled from swimming as an action, allowing Mario to realistically start drowning in this situation (note him flashing red and his air meter depleting).
However, he is saved by Sunshine's (also unique among 3D Mario platformers) ledge tiredness mechanic. After hanging on for 20 seconds, Mario will let go. This is also realistic, since why would he let himself drown?

You've been doing this for three years. Any other person would have given up after 3 to 6 months. Even if you do fail to get that quagsire in time it has been a lot of fun going on this journey with you. Don't ever completely give up until it is too late.

I have reservations about something like this but I will refrain as you are free to play a game however you want. If you want to mod an old game like Ocarina of Time to make the experience better for you then mod it and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

So many devs using AI on Reddit asking for the best ways to avoid having to disclose using AI get really upset when you point out that they're fine with using AI but don't want to disclose it is... disingenuous. "But players hate it!" Maybe, but knowing that you still used it. What's your issue??

DoorDash spent $1.4M trying to stop Zohran Mamdani from becoming mayor. This week's historic $131.5M enforcement action against DoorDash for underpaying NYC delivery workers shows why. Yet another reminder that the only thing that can beat organized money is organized people.
