Did you know octopuses are technically colorblind? 🌈 One photoreceptor, no color vision, should only see in grayscale. So how are they perfect color matching camouflage artists? 🐙 A thread 🧵 (with sources at the end, of course 😋) 🦑🐡

So, apparently, you are allowed to take your e-bike on a train. But you are not allowed to take your e-unicycle. Which... I didn't even know those existed, but good to know in case I ever plan to travel on one, I guess.

Btw also, the piercer told me that I have "the most symmetrical nostrils" she had ever seen, which goes onto my list of the most unhinged compliments I've ever received, right next to the time a radiologist told me I had "beautiful insides".

*in that one particular tone of voice* I did it 😁
Picture of my forward helix piercing. Just an ear with a small silver earring, black earbud in, and a tiny piercing with a greenish stone. Small braid of warm toned purple hair running above the ear.

I might have called this finished several thousand tiny brushstrokes ago, but as ever, I needled away at inconsequential intricacies probably nobody would notice or care about. It's always the process. Being lost in it is something all artists are keenly familiar with. Botlickers don't get it.
Detail from the same painting of the fairy wren as in the quoted posts, showing the bird's legs and lower portion of its body. The feathers are many shades of intense blues while the legs are a bluish, brownish grey. The piece is very small and very intricate.

I took Luna outside today for like 10 minutes, mostly just into the backyard, and by the time we went back home she was panting as if we spent half an hour playing. She just walked around a bit, and went to the toilet. And it's nowhere near as hot here as it is elsewhere in Europe.

And the worst part about this whole "update borked my display" thing is that's just a reminder that I'll need to build a new pc at some point in the somewhat future, because my GPU is bloody ancient. Which is great, because, you'll be shocked to find, I don't have a spare ~3,5k gbp laying around

So, before you go being upset in the replies talking about late stage capitalism (valid), just know, that the biggest contribution to falling birth rates is the fact that there's way less teenage pregnancies. Which the article even mentions. They're freaking out about kids not having kids.

Want to hear something freaky? If a deer gets a cut on its antlers while it's still in velvet, the next year when the deer grows a completely NEW rack, it will often grow an extra branch in the exact spot of the cut. Let's talk about TROPHIC MEMORY, the weird way cells (may) remember each other.

Majestic Deer with Huge Velvet Antlers
Alt: Majestic Deer with Huge Velvet Antlers. To be clear, this is probably a genetic event or even a breeding decision, but it illustrates the strange ways that antlers can grow. This poor buck, I'm assuming probably a white tailed deer, looks a bit overwhelmed to have a monstrous rack.

We have several prestige paleontology shows coming from a very narrow social perspective - alpha males, mothers only living to sacrifice themselves for offspring, an emphasis on dominance, dynasties. It’s tired. It’s all of life as an arms race, everything needing to have a direct survival function.
