Happy International Hummingbird Day 🌸 I hope you get to see a hummingbird today!

I love plants. It's like a gift every time I see a tomato getting red enough to pick. I think it's so cool that the birds eat straight from the old sunflower heads. You can see the bright pink flash of the Anna's Hummingbird at the end ☺️ #homegarden #freshvegetables #apartmentgardening

Garden update 🍅 Plants are growing, birds are visiting, I have sunflower sprouts every morning, a couple of small tomatoes every few days, and peppers whenever I want to go pick some🫑 I harvested and then fried a bunch of tiny potatoes and they were perfect #apartmentgardening #freshvegetables

Morning plant check 4.12 🌸🌿 Checking up on each of my plants and terraria. Closeups of large fuzzy eggplant plant with a purple flower and thorns on the leaf veins, because it is delightfully intriguing and I read eggplant plants don't always have thorns but their ancestors did. How cool!

States are struggling to meet their clean energy goals. Blame data centers
Nevada's largest utility says it will need three times the electricity required to power Las Vegas just to handle proposed data centers — and it probably can't do that without fossil fuels.

Zohran Mamdani and the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection have announced a "Click to Cancel" rule. The rule would make NYC the first city in the nation to ban subscription traps and force companies to make it just as easy to cancel subscriptions as it is to enroll.

My craziest idea regarding elections is to take all the money out of it. No candidate should have more money than another. No more campaign commercials, only debates, interviews and town halls answering questions. I don't think we should even know which party they affiliate with.

Why spend years getting trained in research, building a story, just to watch capricious decisions, not based on science or merit, destroy years of your hard work and career? I feel this deeply. 🧪
This is absolutely infuriating and completely idiotic.
An estimated 95,000 scientists and researchers have left federal agencies since Trump returned to the White House. These are the people tracking hurricanes, studying pediatric cancer, and modeling the climate tipping points that determine whether we can still prevent catastrophe.
We lost them because this administration defunded their work, shuttered their offices, and made clear that finding out the truth is no longer a government priority.

I hate wasting and/or buying things so I made a cat litter jug into a planter. For being pretty thick plastic, it was surprisingly malleable and easier to work with than any water bottle or milk jug I've tried cutting up before. #diy

I am not sure young folks understand the extreme meaness of the current administration. I came to USA for a job as a scientist funded by the Federal government, which paid my salary for 18 years. Current federal lack of support for science and scientists is civilization destroying.

“burn the entire democracy down and start over” is an opinion equivalent to “apocalyptic times are good because the rapture is coming and I’ll go to heaven” in that it’s a way people give themselves permission to do none of the complex and difficult things that would make things a little better now

How do we get people who didn’t vote to do it next time. And no I don’t mean by the candidate having no positions on issues. Or being someone who nobody can have a criticism of. I mean how do we get them to see that the outcome has weight. Is there a way to get them to see the outcome matters?
