We didn't have all of this hysteria when the Tiries released 10,000 prisoners early, only 3 years ago. Everyone being released would have been released within a short time anyway, but the media are carrying on like all the prisoners were on whole life tariff

In all the excitement over Binface I'd missed that there's a Rejoin EU party candidate in the Clacton by-election, John Stevens. Here's hoping he gets more publicity before the 13th. @nixonsimon.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/nixons/p...
There are in fact 34 candidates on the ballot, including several novelty candidates and plenty of independents. But John Stevens, a former Conservative Party MEP and dogged pro-European campaigner who is standing for the Rejoin EU party, is deadly serious. Not because he expects to win but because, he tells me, that he has discovered on the doorstep that there are many in the Clacton constituency, which was once solidly Tory territory, who are strongly anti-Brexit and anti-Farage - and they resent the suggestion from supposed allies in the media that they dishonour their democratic rights by voting for a man dressed as a bin. Stevens' goal is to give these people a chance to be heard.

Making London safer is my top priority, and our efforts are paying off. Met data shows neighbourhood crime is down by 14%, including a 11% fall in personal robbery. These results show the impact of long-term investment, effective policing and communities working hand in hand.
Infographic from the Mayor of London showing reductions in neighbourhood crime in London compared with the same period last year. A bar chart highlights three offences with lower recorded crime levels: theft from the person down 23%, personal robbery down 11%, and vehicle offences down 9%. Screenshot of a news article headline reading “Buy Back Brixton submits ‘competitive’ bid for the purchase of Brixton Village and Market Row,” dated Wednesday 24th June 2026 and credited to “mike urban,” with “1 Comment.” Below the headline, a large outdoor scene shows a crowd gathered in a public space near railway arches and market buildings. A person stands on a small raised platform addressing the audience, while many people watch, some holding phones or cameras. Bright sunlight casts long shadows, and shopfronts and a tented stall are visible in the background.
