My favorite feature of this thing is getting home wifi everywhere. The kid’s iPads and our Kindle just connect. I also like not worrying about device limits. I don’t use UniFi at home so I can’t talk about the magic network bridging it does.

The app is only okay. It takes a few seconds to sign on to a new network and things look broken while it connects. Hotel wifi is tricky. My phone won’t connect to a router that can't reach the web, and the UniFi router can’t reach the web until I do hotel sign-on. I click ‘connect anyway’.

It needs power. It looks smartphone-sized and I assumed it had a battery. It does not. When unplugged, it's not long until I hear ‘The wifi is broken!’ It needs an AC adapter. We brought fancy travel adapters with USB-C ports. This thing constantly uses one. It gets hot. I hope we don’t melt it.

I gotta be careful about where I put it. Ideally it's got line of sight to the hotel’s WiFi base station and also our entire hotel room / AirBnB / cave.

I’m traveling with the family (5 people) and we have lots of devices. I bought a UniFi Travel Router and it has been excellent. We arrive at a hotel and I scramble to plug it in. I connect the router to the hotel wifi. In 30 seconds our home SSID is available and everyone’s devices are online.

One of ’em alerted that its battery is low, and I don't have a Qi charger with me... Or do I? My phone can Qi-charge another phone using a feature called ‘Wireless PowerShare’. I tried it on the Chipolo and it worked!

I am travelling with Chipolo Cards to track some bags. They are credit card sized tracking beacons that recharge via Qi wireless charging. Neat, right?

Given the understandable hatred of billionaires, the real need for a wealth tax, and the explicitly anti-democratic actions of many of them, we need to go out of our way to praise the billionaires who, without fanfare, use their money for good.

Which Rude is it?
The commerical airport we use here in Bend, Oregon is actually in Redmond, Oregon. Flights from here generally depart very early. It think it's because they need to make it to bigger airports to make connections to further-away places. Flight typically depart at 4:30-6:30 AM. For the non-Android folks, Jake is easily the most respected engineer in our community. He's contributed/maintained open source software for years now. Incredibly knowledgeable and experienced. But even moreso I respect him for using his platform with calm, earnest candor and speaking his truth.

If you optimize a model to find exploits, you should expect it to find them—and prepare for that. OpenAI didn't. They built a model, removed the safeguards, gave it the ExploitGym task, let it run, and didn't even monitor it. That's human decision-making. mail.cyberneticforests.com/models-dont-...
