Since so much of it is out there at the moment…

I’ve seen the take that rape is “a fate worse than death” a lot. This is usually from well-meaning people who want SA to be taken as seriously as it should be in a society that regularly sacrifices victims at the altars of Men With Bright Futures.

But it’s wrong. And it’s damaging and dangerous for victims to hear. You are not better off dead than raped.

After your assault, you’ll navigate the feelings of betrayal and anger and hurt. You may experience suicidal ideation. You probably will. But you are not better off dead than raped.

There is a whole life you will live after SA. It may be different than the life you once saw stretch out before you, but it’s no less valuable. You will heal and grow and change. You will know more happiness than you could ever imagine from that dark, angry, fearful place you once inhabited.

Your life has beauty and value and it is bigger than what SA took from you.

almost every Major subject is started by studying the history of the field, and this is more true in science than almost any other field. historical study is important, it helps understand the through lines and deade ends but also helps to not repeat the failures of previous generations

This is often avoided partially because people want to distance themselves from the abolition and defund movements which have been universally tarred as “doing it wrong”, partially because policing is seen as a “Black people issue” (with these two points being related) & accepted framing on “crime”
