Increasingly convinced the main damage cell phones have done to creativity isn't decreased attention spans or what not but the elimination of productive boredom. Inspiration comes from the mind filling the void inside. Hard to make art when you're constantly silencing the silence with "content."

Just watched The Phoenician Scheme. Average Wes Anderson, which for me still means very entertaining, but the most interesting thing is that there are no meta levels. After the three levels of Asteroid City, and the stylized shorts, it's a welcome break.

regular blogger: i don't want to suggest Altman is lying :/ maybe they work out generative AI :/ me:
Personally, I genuinely want OpenAI to point a finger at DeepSeek and accuse it of IP theft, purely for the hypocrisy factor. This is a company that exists purely from the wholesale industrial larceny of content produced by individual creators and internet users, and now it’s worried about a rival pilfering its own goods?
Cry more, Altman, you nasty little worm.

I really need ppl to stop referring to China as a communist economy (source: www.theguardian.com/business/202...)
The company was founded by the entrepreneur Liang Wenfeng, who runs a hedge fund, High-Flyer Capital, that uses AI to identify patterns in stock prices. Liang reportedly started buying Nvidia chips in 2021 to develop Al models as a hobby, bankrolled by his hedge fund. In 2023, he founded DeepSeek, which is based in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou.

I wish there was more of a push from writers/websites to have people use RSS. I know Google Reader's death made it harder, but there's apps now like Inoreader and Feedly that work on phones that I think people would use. It's just easier to see something through RSS feeds than checking social media

When you're exploring a new city or learning a new language, you don't understand everything all at once. You take little details and put them away for later. That's how I run megadungeons. References to old rulers, strange coins, repeating themes. They make sense eventually.

Figured I should show off some cartography examples. I've managed to pick up a few folks, but commissions remain open. I really ought to do more local maps.
A map of Bigmosse from CY_Borg in an isometric cyberpunk style from several years ago when I was experimenting with pointcrawling and unity.A map in blue depicting a pastoral rural region within a massif valley.A broad futuristic extrapolation of the world beyond the Negacity of CY in CY_Borg, as well as some corporations continuing to make the world worse. This was really just me royally fucking up the greater Stockholm regional area.A panel map for point-crawling that I made for an L5R campaign, in old Ukiyo-e type styles (broadly speaking). Definitely expanded further on this one, but the file was too large.

How to filter out AI Images in Google Image Search. Sharing this with my students so I figured I'd also share it with everyone here. Hopefully this image is still relevant given Google's changes. Save this on your computer or phone and refer to it as needed.
HOW TO FILTER OUT AI IMAGES IN GOOGLE IMAGES

When you type something add the following minus keywords: -ai, -prompt

Since AI movement increased highly in 2022, use "before:" like before:2021 (VERY effective)

The following keywords will affect and should decrease amounts of AI imagery appearing on your search.

Create, not scrape!

Det är lite egendomligt i den pågående debatten om konstnärlig forskning att forskningen grundad i litterär gestaltning är så påtagligt frånvarande. Det är som om konstnärlig forskning bara är film, konst och scenkonst.

I really wish people truly understood and accepted that when you talk to ChatGPT, this is what you get. Yeah, even when it seems to make sense, this is what it's doing: it doesn't know what it's doing, it just mimics the form and motion of language with no understanding of what the words mean.

Yesterday we finished a campaign in @p-h-lee.bsky.social's Polaris. The corrupted knight broke the Order of the Stars but got thrown from the highest tower, while the last pure knight rode out alone against demon hordes approaching beneath the coming dawn. Classic tragedy. Game is still very good.

Great thread that also shows how terrible AI crap is when it has wormed its way into places where one looks for photo references. Sites that do stock photos and Pinterest are both no longer usable without a lot of due diligence that eats up way too much time you don't have.
