People power wins in Türkiye! A court has cancelled the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval for new units at the Afşin-Elbistan A coal plant, citing serious risks to health, water and land. A major step toward a coal phase-out and a just transition ahead of COP31.

🌍 EU27 #ETS emissions fell just 1.7% in 2025 (1,137 MtCO₂). ⚡ Since 2005: -51.7%, still off the -62% by 2030 target. Portugal & Denmark lead cuts. 🏭 Coal/lignite = 9.2% of power but 46% of combustion emissions. 🏗️ Industry emissions: only -2.6%. 🔎 New report: shorturl.at/2haNP #LIFEEffect

NEW | British wind and solar helped shield billpayers from hikes in gas power prices since the start of the US-Israel war with Iran on 28 Feb 🛡️⚡ Higher wind and solar output cut gas use, saving Britain around £7mn/day in gas purchases compared to the 2021-23 energy crisis 🧵

Really good piece by @australiainstitute.org.au on how coal mines stopped by grassroots activism in Australia helped bring down coal demand in South Korea, ultimately encouraging them to join the @pastcoal.bsky.social at #COP30 An example of how diplomacy follows activism ✊ bit.ly/4ozSiuN

Australia’s big climate win – stopping Korean coal mines
One of the big announcements at last week’s UN climate talks in Brazil was that the South Korean Government has committed to phasing out coal-fired power by 2040.

An interesting snippet of information... Electricity generation from coal in India has dropped in the first 10 months of 2025, with renewables covering for all the growth in electricity use. Noting, growth in electricity use is rather low... More figures: robbieandrew.github.io/india/

😍 #Lula just opened #COP30 with a strong call: the world needs "to get rid of fossil fuels" & "accelerate the energy tranisition" He said Belem will honour the COP28 + 29 agreements to transition away from #fossilfuels and scale up finance, and we need a roadmap for doing so in a fair way
