For Brits of a certain age, travelling in the German-speaking countries always leads you into a little time warp where C&A still exists. And if you go inside it still looks just like C&A did the last time you went into one in the UK.

Rather pleased with this photo that I took opposite St Martin’s church in Basel’s old town. The halo was the only way to get the sun hidden but I didn’t notice the vapour trails until I looked at the picture.

I was ringing for a wedding today and the Vicar’s address included an extremely drawn-out analogy between marriage and Andrex toilet paper. They even unrolled a roll of it down the aisle. It was very much straying into (and possibly beyond) Alan Bennett comedy vicar territory.

Went to see a blue plaque unveiled today commemorating Stefan Zweig. A very good event followed by a reception at the Austrian Ambassador’s residence and a display of manuscripts from Zweig’s collection at the BL.

This was shown in a display of recent acquisitions by some of my colleagues today. I love the way that the cat and fiddle are shown life size so the cat looks as if it’s playing a double bass (to my shame didn’t note the bibliographical details so can only show the image)

Well, I've finally & belatedly deleted my X account. I've not posted for a while, but hung on because there were still accounts/people I was following who I can't find elsewhere, & I have fond memories of better days and of lovely interactions that will now be lost. But it was time to go. So I went.

Two of the most enjoyable accounts that I follow on here are @dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social and @mooseallain.bsky.social, so my brother @nickinmasham.bsky.social & sister-in-law hit a double bullseye by giving me 2 Tom Coxes from their collection and a hand-drawn Moose cartoon for my birthday.

Librarian followers, are you being driven to distraction (and tears) by the new RDA toolkit or is it just me? Apparently I have to learn how to navigate this thing before I can carry on cataloguing (which I’ve been doing for over 30 years & I was an RDA trainer when RDA started). And it’s awful.
