🧪 probably a long shot, but: has anyone heard of a two-headed trout specimen named Cuthbert the Great? the specimen allegedly went to the AMNH in 1940 but the museum has no record of it. trying to track down Cuthbert. www.nytimes.com/1944/08/13/a...

New academic year, new me... Or rather, being told that I should become a new, better communicator me when working with clinicians. I'm just not sure how, when any knowledge I have and they lack means that that knowledge was irrelevant. But any knowledge I lack just proves my general incompetence.

If you play American football, you will get CTE. Almost all of 338 ex-players who died in 2008-21 and donated their brains had CTE. It's possible that the other 1374 who died in that period were all fine, but seems unlikely to me. CTE risk is between ~18 and ~99%. Horrifying. @nicoleackermans.com

One of the many odd things from these academic freedom avengers: "He should be able to work on this completely discredited idea because he's a philosopher." I guess they think it's a soft bullshit discipline that must/can be completely divorced from other knowledge. Fuck philosophy I guess?

Man abhors a vacuum.
SHOULD MEN VACUUM MORE?
Bouke de Vries
Cross-national surveys show that among heterosexual couples who share
a household, women tend to perform more housework than their male
partners. Many feminists believe that this must be unjust, the assumption
being that justice requires an equal distribution of housework between the
sexes. My aim in this contribution is to challenge this view. To do so, I dis-
tinguish three possible interpretations of it. The first says that heterosexual
co-residential partners, construed broadly to include married individuals,
should do as much housework as their partner and not more. The second
interpretation maintains that they should split evenly the housework that
must be done to realize a minimally decent living standard. And the third
maintains that the housework co-residential male and female partners
each perform as a group ought to be equal, whether or not the constituent
loads are equalized on an individual household level. All three versions
are found to be untenable.
