Yes, to be fair, she was not a big repper of fantasy but I was new to querying and didn't know all the "rules" or have just one. Every query was like a letter personalized to that agent. I had better response back then. Something to think about.

Yep. Long ago, I had an agent who liked my work but said "fantasy was dead" and one had to really fight for it. Soon after, a new TV show appeared. Game of Thrones.

Researching the market? Check the date on that advice. A post from a few years ago might say a genre is over, while editors are asking for it today (hello, dystopia!). Trends move. No genre is out of style forever. Keep writing the book you love.

Dead balloons. Interesting. I can see that-my mom always warned me that inhaling balloons while blowing them up could suffocate us. So, I'm just not a balloon fan. But, being a night owl, and probably also being raised in South Texas heat, I've always loved being out in the dark.

The Bumble terrified me. I remember hiding behind the couch while my older sibs watched Rudolph. The flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz scared the pee out of me. The "two big black things" in the poem Little Orphan Annie which my dad could quote. And did, whenever we misbehaved. So, often.

And all the wildlife they eat. I love cats but they can't help but hunt birds, bunnies, etc. Wildlife is already under seige. They don't need to be killed for fun by cats with food bowls at home.
