As of today, October 1, I am closed to queries! I'll aim to open again in the spring. 💕

My favorite was when an author flippantly wrote that if the interest was real, he’d have to loop in his agent at “Writers House LLC.” The scammer replied, “Of course! I’d be happy to speak to your agent at Writers House LLC.”

QUERY UPDATE: I will close to queries on October 1! If your query is ready to send before then, I'd love to see it! But please don't rush, as I'll aim to open again in the new year. 🫶

I'm seeing a lot of queries with word counts that don't make sense for the genre/age category. For instance, several "literary fiction" queries in the 20-25k range, or MG that's only 10k words. Be sure to keep word count in mind, especially for your debut! manuscriptacademy.com/word-count-b...

The amount of romance novels I've started based on them being described as romcoms only to find out a few chapters in there is no comedy, it's just a lighthearted romance. The "com" is not optional in a romcom!

The Walton family (who own Walmart) are worth over $400 billion, yet many of their employees are on SNAP. Bezos is worth over $400 billion, many Amazon employees require SNAP. The people who need help are not the problem. It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.
