Welcome to my personal echo chamber. Hints of wildlife, ecology, environment, climate, community and social justice may appear here from time to time. There might even be the odd photo of Suffolk's beautiful skies.

Pretty special sunset to finish off the first day of the New Year in #Suffolk
Golden sunset with vivid oranges and blues, with the silhouette of an oak tree in the foreground.

It’s a great sculpture in a beautiful setting. We’ve numerous photos of it over the decades (often with somebody peering through the round hole in the middle).

That’s a good call, Adam. Just looked ‘em up and the Alder Wood Wasp (Xiphydria camelus) seems to tick all the ID boxes for the example we saw. First one we’ve ever noticed. Thanks!

Anybody able to help identify this insect? Perhaps a type of sawfly? Approx 2cm long, red legs, black & white on abdomen (with a hint of dark blue in the sunlight). Spotted on silver birch foliage. @suffolkwildlife.bsky.social @suffolk-nats1929.bsky.social

Whitley N1380 ‘DY-R’ crashed on 20th May 1940 during the Battle of France, killing its five-man crew. Their sacrifice was remembered this weekend by both the French and British at Hamégicourt where they are buried. • David Owen • Dennis Holbrook • Duncan Barrett • Reginald Newberry • Michael Dolan

15+ years old, but still VERY relevent — and if we had acted 15 years ago, the “better world” we’d be creating would be a LOT better & easier to reach. There are real consequences we’re just starting to see to not heeding this cartoon a lot sooner. Even worse if we don’t heed it now. #ClimateCrisis
Iconic cartoon with people looking at a long list of public benefits connected with climate action, asking “What if it’s a big hoax and we create a better world for nothing?”

1. Today the Tories unveil their new policy: ripping up the commitment to net zero by 2050. Kemi Badenoch, with no evidence, claims "it can’t be achieved without a serious drop in our living standards or by bankrupting us." What the evidence shows is the opposite. We can't prosper without it. 🧵

And going ‘further and faster’ without a plan for nature? That isn’t progress, it’s gambling with our future. A thriving economy relies on a thriving natural world. Real growth means backing net-zero, nature recovery, and long-term sustainability... not pushing them aside.

Gosh. What a refreshing read. So many uncomfortable parallels here about how politics and industry pressures often subvert more moral and scientific approaches to better design. “Safety, Tingvall believes, is just like climate change – you can deny the science, but at the risk of your credibility.”
