Rivas grew up in El Salvador during another tumultuous era. A military coup in 1979 led to a deadly decade-long civil war between the U.S.-backed Salvadoran government and a left-wing guerrilla group backed by Cuba. 

Rivas decided to become a Catholic priest at age 27. He says the military viewed Catholic clergy who advocated for social justice and human rights as communists. He was detained, beaten and hospitalized, he says.

One of these students was my own advisee, and having supported her throughout the the months-long case, I can state with confidence that she did nothing wrong. Moreover, she happens to be deaf and was suspended in part for being “unreasonably loud.” Privacy consideration

We can also check out small tools, telescopes etc. Can get reduced rate museum passes. Staff are wonderful and calm. Huge childrens section. They show movies, in the summer have breakfast/lunch for school kids it is a warm, caring place of refuge in this chaotic world.
