In the Brambleverse, every expansion is approximately a year, and the NPCs GENERALLY age accordingly, but also some of it is pure vibes. And then there's MSQ time shenanigans which makes it weirder. We keep the twins' ages in line with Yuyuka's, which also requires some muddling

Funniest part of the patches leading up to EW is the quiet custody battle for Yuyuka going on between Gridania and The Scions. Gridania keeps trying to call Yuyuka back while she’s dodging her job like the plague by stretching out the “I’m still helping the scions” assignment for as long as possible

*Rent lowering gunshot* I’m afraid we’re flaying Yuyuka with this snippet Endwalker spoilers Content Warning for “Fighting Zenos” levels of brutality and physical violence against a minor. Unedited.

Zenos had ripped her from the sky like a child with a bug net, torn flesh from bone with all the ease of peeling open a fresh orange. The starlit surface below provided no mercy for her face nor purchase for her hands. She’d scrambled blindly for her cane, a foothold, anything.

She tried not to think of what followed next. The boot slammed upon the nape of her neck. A scythe tip pressed against her back for several heartbeats too long. Don’t look. The plea she would’ve offered Roscoe drowned within a blood-filled mouth. Don’t give him the reaction he wants.

day 19 - liminal on her carriage ride into gridania proper, amaris finds herself in an indescribable space. one that is home. one than comes under attack [ #📝 | #ffxivwrite2026 | #ffxivwrite ]

She's never seen a place so blue in her entire life. It is so blue and so strange, in fact, that she is hard pressed to believe it's real. One moment, she was on a carriage into Gridania proper, the next, she was floating in a deep cerulean sea that calls to her like a siren song.

No, she thinks to herself. This can't be real.

Her slow decent deeper into this space — the blue growing darker and darker until it resembles pitch — seems endless. In a way, it feels comforting. It feels like home.

As her feet hit the ground, she is made aware she is not alone.

"Hear..." A voice calls out to her.

Amaris' head snaps up to meet it, the familiarity prickles at her brain and causes her to scramble through her memories. She knows that voice. She's heard it before.

When she calls back out to it, she is quieted. Her voice stifled like how one is hushed by their mother.

Why aren't I scared, she questions in her mind. She doesn't answer herself, and instead, takes slow steps towards the light — a vibrant orange light - that shines before her.

"Hear...feel.." The voice chimes again.

Amaris' steps grow faster and faster. Each motion almost desperate as the gap closes between her and the light. I need to get there, she screams in her mind. It means something. I have to know. Her arm reaches out, each fiber of her being stretching toward the glow like a sunflower turns towards the sun - relentless determination.

She couldn't say how close she got to the light before the place finally grew scary. Before someone unwelcome found their way into the flat calm and swirled it into a tempest.

A figure in dark robes barring her path. A darkness — an unkind one — swirling around the light. And above all, a gut feeling that it was all wrong. He does not belong there and she wants him gone.

"Hear...feel... think..." The voice chimes again, and this time, the light finds it's way to her. Amaris reaches out for it again. Her fingers graze it and in an instant, she is enveloped in something new. Something powerful. Everything feels right and, somehow, there is nothing she cannot do.

Her eyes narrow at the figure in front of her as her hands squeeze around an axe now suddenly there, wooden handle against bare skin.
She doesn't know who the figure is or where they are and yet as the darkness swirls around them, she decides they cannot stay.

Not in this place. Not in this moment. Not in this impossible dream.This place, she believes, is hers.

day 17 - fret alphinaud’s concerns for amaris during her fight against the gnath’s god were well founded (regardless of how estinien teased him for them) and in response, he heals her after the battle [ #📝 | #ffxivwrite2026 | #ffxivwrite ]

"Ahem! What matters is that the primal is banished, and our promise fulfilled. We should return to Vidofnir without delay." Alphinaud all but pouts in response to Ser Estinien's teasing.

She barely hears Ysayle's admonishments towards the dragoon. In fact, the only thing she can truly focus on is the persistent shocks of pain in her body and how her bloodied cheeks are far less red than flush that graces Alphinaud's.

Amaris' hands slowly come up to wipe at the blood — to make herself presentable — before near-hobbling over to Alphinaud's side.

He is standing off to the side, a sunny spot that warms the skin in the Summer chill. He hears her coming, her steps far less graceful than normal. Their eyes connect and his are filled with nothing but guilt and sympathy.

She wipes again at her cheeks, speckles of remaining dried blood crumbling into her palm.

"You are hurt." He says it plainly.

"It's not that bad." She replies. It's not intended as a lie. She wants to believe that it just looks worse than it feels. She takes a step forward and instantly winces, and in turn, makes a liar out of herself.

Alphinaud frowns and his brows furrow before storming up to her with an outstretched hand. Amaris mumbles something incoherent. A question of his meaning.

"You need healing." Another phrase said plainly. He doesn't need to explain further, the need is obvious to everyone but her.

"It's fine rea—" Amaris begins to say only to be interrupted by the feeling of Alphinaud's gloved hand taking hers. It's gentle, as if she may break. His gait is slow, matching hers as he leads her around a corner to privacy.

He gestures for her to sit. Amaris looks at him hesitantly as she does.

"You said we needed to hurry." Amaris whispers as Alphinaud looks over her form.

"I said that before I realized you were hurt." He is soft with his argument in a way that makes Amaris' heart flutter. "We will not be going anywhere until you're able to walk without pain."

Amaris nods and she wants to equate the prickle of tears in the corner of her eye to the pain, not the care being thrust upon her.

He nods in return before he examines her again. For better or for worse, she looks hale and whole sans for the previous indicators. "Where does it hurt the most?" He asks her.

She thinks for a moment, pressing her fingers against her body. She hisses at a particularly sore spot on her side and that is all Alphinaud needs to know.

He leans forward, his hands hovering above where she pointed out — a cool toned glow of magick attempts to permeate the wound. His facial features knit together, focused on the task. Amaris holds her breath.

The glow stops and Alphinaud hums a frustrated sound. At himself or the lack of healing impact, she is not sure.

"My apologies but..." He begins, his eyes anywhere but her. "Would you.…..Could you remove your jacket?" He asks, his voice cracking on the request.

A bystander would think the two of them are making it more awkward than it needs to be. Amaris has shucked layers for chirurgeons before. This should be no different. She isn't a bystander, however. She is the girl who has a crush on the boy who is so physically close to her that she is concerned he may hear the racing of her heart.

"Yeah..." She whispers and brings her hands up to the buttons. It's a slow motion, careful to not aggravate any unknown wounds. The jacket undone, she tried gently to slip her arms from the fabric. Barely a moment passes before Alphinaud twists his body to place his hands on the jacket as he helps her out of it.

He folds the garment neatly before returning to his work, his face a touch calmer at the sight of clean clothes, unmarred by blood.

"Your tunic, if you don't mind lifting it?" He asks, his voice steadier than before. She does, and their eyes both come face-to-face with a growing bruise - a mix of deep and light reds.

He says nothing as his hands return to hover over the wound, and this time, the magick feels like something. It feels warm like a compress against her skin, the relief like that of a headache or congestion dissolved in an instant. It feels better, and selfishly, she is glad to see that the bruising looks better too.

"That's amazing..." She whispers into the wind.

"It was nothing." Alphinaud deflects before standing, offering his hand in the process. "Can you stand?"

Amaris nods, hesitantly placing her hand in his as he helps her to her feet.

"Does it feel any better?" He asks while his hand still wrapped around hers.

"Much better." She confirms while her hand still comfortably settled in his.

That, in and of itself, is healing in its own way.
