Mark Peterson’s black-and-white images of ICE agents evoke film noir and the urban-crime photography of the 1930s and ’40s. “If someone is doing everything right, and then they still get detained, it’s a crime scene,” he said.

"Depart from me, you who are cursed... For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me." - Jesus
Image is a collage with two images.

On the left, there is an image of the barracks at Auschwitz, the largest Nazi concentration camp where an estimated 1.1 million people were murdered. Each of the wooden bunk beds has 3 beds, but the space was often overcrowded. Incarcerated people also had limited or no access to water, toilets, and bathing sites; were underfed with poor-quality or spoiled food; and were exposed to many of the harsh environmental elements. Rats, lice, and contagious diseases were a constant problem. Prisoners were often abused by the guards. The image is labeled, "Then," with black text on a white backdrop.

On the right, there is an image of the barracks at an ICE Detention Center in Florida, aka Aligator Alcatraz, which currently houses over 900 people in tent structures on an airstrip in the Everglades. Each of the bunk beds has 2 beds, but the space is described by lawmakers as overcrowded with over 30 people crammed into a single cage. Incarcerated people there report they have limited or no access to water, toilets, and bathing sites; are underfed with poor-quality, infested, or spoiled food; and are exposed to many of the harsh environmental elements such as rain, extreme heat, mosquitoes, vermin, and lice. Contagious disease spread is a problem and many people are getting sick. They also report being abused and beaten by guards. The image is labeled, "Now," with black text on a white backdrop.Image of the Auschwitz barracks is set next to text on a white backdrop. Behind both, is an image of Auschwitz prisoners in the barracks. Here are scripts for opposing the #Trump EO that seeks to forcibly institutionalize mentally ill and neurodiverse ppl, as well as imprison homeless ppl. Putting ppl in cages will NOT solve homelessness, make us safer, or help ppl get help. It's esp telling that the EO defunds data-backed solutions.

My Fellow Disabled Folks. This is our legacy. We: Broke sidewalks to install curbs so we could leave their homes. Fought the Ugly Laws. Slept in dirty offices to get equal access. Crawled up marble to demand the ADA. We are powerful together, & we must fight the attacks on our right to exist freely.
Ed Roberts on the Berkeley Campus and at a protest. Roberts demanded to be able to attend Berkeley, opening up higher-ed to disabled people. He fought for disabled rights all his life, and even led a group of disabled vigilantes who smashed sidewalks and installed concrete ramps so people in wheelchairs, aka disabled students, could safely exit a sidewalk onto the street and get to places they needed to go without someone to lift them. Black and White image of Judy Heumann with Ed Roberts in the background. Judy is wearing a white shirt, dark sweater, and glasses. Her dark, straight hair is tucked behind her ears, and there are papers and a microphone on a table in front of her.

Judy Heumann lost the ability to walk due to childhood polio. She spent her life breaking down barriers and fighting for disabled people. She, like Ed Roberts, was a pioneer for disabled students in higher ed. She was the first teacher in NY to use a wheelchair at work. She also organized the impressive 504 Sit-In protest. "She lobbied for legislation that eventually led to the federal Americans with Disabilities Act, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the Rehabilitation Act. She served as the assistant secretary of the U.S. Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services, beginning in 1993 in the Clinton administration, until 2001.

Heumann also was involved in passage of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which was ratified in May 2008.

She helped found the Berkley Center for Independent Living, the Independent Living Movement and the World Institute on Disability and served on the boards of several related organizations including the American Association of People with Disabilities, the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund, Humanity and Inclusion and the United States International Council on Disability." (KVNU Memorial of her life)

Below, the crying others who are just like me but had no tightrope or fell with a gust of unpredictable wind. I didn't earn my blessings; they don't deserve their suffering

@pelosi.house.gov I think you've forgotten how that bill and other #disability laws passed. We crawled up the Capitol to get your attention, we slept on floors occupying your offices for 25 days, we risked everything for a more inclusive future. And you let that bill pass with barely a whisper. #ADA
Black and White Image showing Disabled Protesters and their Allies occupying the HEW building in San Francisco during the 504 Sit-In Protest. Many of the Protesters are seen sitting in wheelchairs. They are all gathered in a circle around a central speaker/ASL signer who is communicating with the group. Over 500 ppl attended the first day of the protest, with approximately 150 Protesters occupying the building for 25 days. The protest ended when the Secretary for HEW, under President Johnson, signed the 504 regulations.A black and white image showing three people in wheelchairs- a man holding a "we shall overcome" sign, a woman with big hair and sunglasses and an "access is a civil right sign," and a young girl in a peace t shirt- and a tall, black man with a guide dog walk purposely on a street. Behind them, you can see a crowd of people following on foot, carrying signs, and using a variety of mobility devices.

Over 600 Disabled and Allied Protestors assembled and convoyed toward the U.S. Capitol to demand the passage of the ADA by Congress and President George Bush, Sr. in 1990. Black and White Image of Disabled Protesters climbing the stairs of the Capitol during the Capitol Crawl Protest in 1990. Scores of the over 600 marchers got out of their wheelchairs and dropped their mobility devices in order to climb the marble steps. They climbed backwards or on their hands and knees, step-by-painstaking step. In the photo, taken low to the ground at the base of the staircase, a man close to the camera is crawling on his hands and knees. In one hand, he holds his crutches. All around the man, to the very top of the frame, you can see other climbers slowly making their way up. The camera's vertical perspective helps to illustrate how daunting the climb is when you have to crawl. Participants delivered copies of the Declaration of Independence to Congress as a reminder that ALL persons deserved life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The ADA was signed into law by George Bush, Sr., 6 months after the Capitol Crawl.

Public health is not a partisan issue. The dismissal this week of 2,400 CDC workers—including the entire Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch—jeopardizes public safety and health. Thank you to the dedicated public servants who do this hard work even when under attack by critics. #PublicHealthWeek

Every single one must have a primary challenger. They are aiding the destruction of our institutions, the removal of legal immigrants via the deportation system, & the obliteration of our economy. Say no to Trump until he addresses these problems. That's the game plan. Make it harder to destroy us.

there is simply no amount of child death that will move RFK to change his mind because he is a predatory narcissist who cares less about health than the gratification of his own ego

#Disabled ppl already have to choose between #medicine or food. #Tariffs will skyrocket meds. Ppl will die. #Hospitals will have far more patients who are suffering from lack of meds, putting more pressure on a very stressed system. #Trump policy is ignorant, bad for Americans, & cruel. #healthcare

#RFKJR belief in fake science is one horrible thing, but this is just straightforward incompetence. #Lead pipes exist all over the country which #Biden had addressed with his EPA rule and $2.6 billion to replace them. But RFK has fired the #CDC lead program and we have to worry about lead poisoning.

When #TikTok was banned, we moved to another space. The best part of that was watching the international exchange between Chinese and American users. So many realized, in that moment, that Americans were worse off than most middle-class folk overseas.
