Happy to find that my "souvenir" transit pass, aka leap card, from Ireland still works and even had €0.50 left on it. That'll come in handy this Friday with my 8.5 hour layover in Dublin! So far the plan is to visit the coast for a little cliff walk and late lunch on Howth.

Someday I'll be able to speak on January and February 2026 without my voice wavering. Today wasn't that day. Seeing school drop off at the location I patrolled for all those weeks...but with all of the joy of back to school and zero fear in the eyes of the students. Then these signs on my walk..
A light pole with many paper advertisements and a large banner reading "ICE Go Home"Two signs in green ink on a light post. One states "Somos bellos y poderosos". The bottom sign reads the English translation "we are beautiful and powerful"

Me: has the urge to go shopping for something, anything. Thieves: mess up my bike lock trying to take my beloved car replacement. Me: ah. Well now I get to go shopping I guess? Anywho, buy the nice locks, y'all. Glad I get to keep my bike.

In Fort Collins, we had the Village Vidiot. It was magical, especially for cult hits, like Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter. Even if a film was bad, the memories and the laughs were good. Cheap fun we could walk to, it closed in 2017. But the owner keeps the website alive with film reviews.

One of my favorite games is "find where the cat is napping" and thanks to cooler weather recently, she's been tucking herself into bed 😍 Unfortunately today's forecast of 87°F means she'll be back in the cool bathroom sink by the time I get home.
A dilute calico cat (like a regular calico cat but the colors are muted), tucked between two pillows on a full size bed. She is framed by an abstract floral comforter. Her eyes are closed

Following up this post with shots from another roll, taken 21 years ago and not developed until this month. The Kodak TMax 100 shows amazingly little degradation even after two decades in a cardboard box. More details in the alt text.

Hot take: I had a lovely time with 204,064 of my closest friends yesterday. Even with lines, even with crowds, even with how much my feet ached after 7 hours there. It was a little bit of insanity, but this is my Disney World. I would absolutely like to go on a Tuesday next year.

The selfie I sent to my family after yelling "omg we had that tractor growing up!" Needless to say, my brother was DELIGHTED. We adored our vintage tractors back home on our little 10 acres of alfalfa field. A "gentleman's farm" as they call it.

Sometimes, when someone dies, what helps me is thinking about how wonderful it is that they were even alive in the first place. Dolly was the closest you could get to an American saint. We all loved her.

We’re going to hear about how everyone loved Dolly, and that feels true. But it’s good to remember, and to her credit, that she was attacked for her AIDS activism, her vaccine advocacy, her LGBTQ+ support and even, more recently, for her reading initiatives. She ALWAYS stood firm when it mattered.

Hi Minneapolis friends, nerd night is tonight! And it's every fourth tuesday, and there are openings for maybe August, but definitely September and definitely October. I highly recommend going to a nerd night if you are interested in presenting at a future one, it is so much fun and not scary!

Community felt so good today. It's 90+ degrees, a friend is moving less than a mile down the road, so let's hop on a bike with the trailer and meet up to pack the moving van and cargo bikes to make it happen! Two trips and lots of lifting later, move complete!

Slowing down and noticing pretty things these days. Like tiles from a 1890s home. Viroqua, Wisconsin.

If you use AI for your advertisement flyers, I'm going to make assumptions about you. I'm going to assume you cut corners on everything. If you're a bakery, I'm going to assume you use poor quality ingredients. If you're a handyman, same thing, I'll assume you cut corners on your work.

We've lost two colleagues recently and it hurts beyond words. For almost all city and transportation planners, it's so much more than a job, it's our lifestyle, our everything. It's heartbreaking to lose one of our own, it's infuriating that the system failed us again and again.

Here's my hot take of the day: Trinket trading boxes on the street are just geocaching for people who are afraid to lose a game. Like half of the fun of geocaching is that there is a risk of potential failure. Humans crave a tiny bit of risk, that's why sports betting is insane right now.
