But those aren't the end of it. The whole US govt is now pushing this word, just like it pushed "Lake America." NASA, CISA, EPA, NIST, Homeland Security, the NSF. Some of the greatest concentrations of human intelligence, now turned into propaganda organs for AI. cc: @404media.co

The US Dept of Justice has taken up the cause of marketing AI as "super intelligence." It appears that the first press release of this sort was a week ago, on Oct. 1 2026: www.justice.gov/opa/pr/calif... And now there is this other one (see quote post) on Oct 6.

That said I know smart people who are using these systems for smart stuff. I think there will be perfectly good high-end uses for AI systems—things like making complicated spreadsheets or storing & processing a bunch of diverse data streams—but the everyday use is really maddening.

Every time that a coworker or source sends me something truly stupid, it is written by AI. Mushy, vague writing that is almost impossible to edit? AI. These are bright people at the top of their professions but they can't be dicked to think for a second about what they are saying.

Bizarre press release: 1. 18 months of prison? For AI music? Platforms can hire a few people to moderate uploads. Incarceration is not the answer here. 2. What the hell is "super intelligence"? Seems to be the term the DOJ has settled on. Ick. www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr...

Some things are conspicuous for their absence. There are no references to mile markers, and very few references to road signs. There are a few of any references to gas stations! One of the main distinguishing features of roads is whether it has "macadam," a quaint word for asphalt.

If people could vote in the location where they were imprisoned, it would change rural politics. It would largely eliminate the incentive for rural areas to build prisons, since conservative local leaders that want prisons don't want an imprisoned electorate.

I saw someone post a photo of a New York Times headline and they bought it out the word rape because they were worried that some algorithm would suppress their content. At the office, I heard a young coworker referring to being "SA'd" -- it's creeping into spoken language!

Just bumping into this again with people _reflexively_ using the word "grape" or a 🍇 emoji and not even realizing they're doing it. It's all part of the same system, where the men running these companies make platforms that don't even let people accurately describe the crimes that they enable.

I have Copilot on my work computer and I have tried using it a couple times. The most annoying thing was that it referred to itself as "I." So I gave it a permanent instruction that it had to refer to itself as Clippy and only speak in the third person. So much better now.

What I find disturbing about these threads is that there's now an entire generation, maybe 2, who not only don't know how to read a map, but don't know they exist. This is what the tech bros want. Helpless people dependent on their apps.

Plus, human cognition was different. People who grew up reading maps and getting precise directions learned to think differently, visualize the route, in a way that most people simply can't do now. This is a lesson for the use of advanced AI!

When you're biking along on a quiet path and an SUV comes up behind you and lays on the horn and tries to run you into the ditch, the appropriate response is not to politely move aside. Everyone knows this.

It's generous of you to call it an argument. I would call it a discursive turn. He's using a rhetorical tone (just asking questions, shadowy elite) to signal that he shares membership in the tribe of snide ignorami. That makes him a trusted messenger for certain people.
