(this may sound like I'm joking but for anyone not sure: I am 100% serious. I can absolutely see how being in public in this way for so many years has warped my brain.)

Having gone through Steve’s JJ tutorial, what do I read next? I’m comfy with basic usage, but obviously there’s loads more to learn and I can’t find good resources

i always loved the post that looked like they had implemented @everyone (you could make that look like an at reply to many, many accounts, and the bug was fixed so you can't do that anymore, but I remember seeing a notification that i was mentioned and it was hilarious)

yeah that's an interesting thing to consider
000
Steve Klabnik @steveklabnik.com · 25/09/2026
yeah i also do not believe that that's a coherent position.

sometimes, anthropomorphizing something can be a useful way to talk about it. sometimes it isn't. it really just depends.

Steve Klabnik @steveklabnik.com · 25/09/2026
i think i also might be at a weird part in the space, because I don't think "it can think so we should let it do x" is a good justification. we should be trying to understand actual capabilities and then discussing those.

I’ve had a single Opus 5.5 loop running for more than 48 straight hours now. It uses parallel workers and does multiple adversarial review passes per issue. I have it write linear project updates every 12 hours. It has shipped 60 PRs so far, and filed 108 issues, 69 (nice) of which are fixed.

i think "refusing to anthropomorphize" is virtually always a clarity reduction

i mean, we've always used stuff like this. "computer virus" is itself a metaphor, and then we use language around infection and things to talk about it

i feel almost exactly the opposite, heh. or rather: i think demanding to "not anthropomorphize" makes understanding the hacks harder

“I asked ChatGPT to explain this compiler error, and it helped me fix my code" "uhh actually you entered the compiler error into ChatGPT and used its output to fix your code, stop anthropomorphizing" they're gonna go "uhh yeah okay". it's just not an effective way to communicate

it has big richard stallman energy look how impactful trying to play word games is at actually causing change. didn't help. mostly just makes you look out of touch. scolding people on saying gnu/linux instead of linux produced only a (admittedly, legendary) copypasta and not much else

i worry that this goes beyond C++ interop and into the language itself. i really don't want overloading

1. he's all in on agents and doesn't read the code 2. basecamp/hey are going to native apps because the economics of web vs native have changed 3. he hates looking at rust but doesn't have to (see 1) so that's what he's moving everything to lots more obviously but that's a big 3

one thing that's interesting and independent of *gestures at everything*: movement away from web applications and back to native, due to the economics evolving

it's been a day and i'm still processing it all but i also have more important stuff in my life right now if that weren't true, i'd probably have been trying to blog about it maybe next week
