We rewrote one internal tool to use Rust (instead of TS/Node) as a proof of concept/trial balloon, and yesterday switched over one of our hourly jobs to use it instead of the TS version that it had been using. Over 10× better memory usage and 10–100× improvement in how fast it runs. 🤩

I am being a bit quiet on the socials and blog because I broke my arm and messed up my hand a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully, normal service resumes in a few weeks. I came off my bike pretty badly, but luckily the left arm is the only serious damage - wear your helmet, kids!

On one hand, this (the post and the thread) is absolutely true and valid. On the other, 'letting more people in' is a strategy of the management class for lowering wages. That and the equivalent but with AI is what has made me a lot colder on "we need to let more people in".

I think this is correct, but I think highlights an issue with Eq etc in general: if your errors include private details, you could implement Eq ignoring those details. In fact from the point of view of Eq being part of a type’s api you should do that. But the fact that Eq is usually derived and
